I would like to start by saying that i am not an open world game fan.Not because they are not fun,but because i have limited time at my disposal to play games. So i usually rent linear games from the store next to my house and complete them in 10 hours max (mostly shooters) over the next days. For me driving around for hours,or entering stores on the side of the game progress, just to explore or do silly things,is not something appealing. But sleeping dogs has changed it for me.First of all,we do not have to deal with such a vast game like GT IV or RDR.Secondly, having personally visited China and Hong Kong,i was overwhelmed by the atmosphere and the original style of the game.I felt to have stepped right in the shoes of Wei Shen, the main character and take on a very interesting campaign with twists and turns like it popped out of an old school John Woo movie. The game gives you perspective and choice. You can be linear about it or you can drive around and engage in other activities. There is a lot of diversity, but all of it is fun fun fun!It certainly is worth a try!A very good effort!
PLUS
+ Having a good time playing
+ Fantastic John Woo atmosphere
+ Diversity gives choices and keeps things interesting
+ Driving is fast and furious at times (jumping from vehicles or shooting while driving at high speed!)
MINUS
- Melee combat is brutal and satisfying but can be frustrating at times when you try to beat 10 thugs at the same time...
- Shooting is relatively sparse, the shooting moments are enjoyable but the shooting mechanics are a bit awkward.
- Checkpoints are a bit far apart. So you can enter a mission with 4 parts, die in the last one and play all parts from the beginning!
