This game... it's so relaxing! For the SNES, this is an amazing SimCity.

Being a SNES adaptation of the first SimCity, there can't be that many expectations, right? Nope, wrong. This game's great, and stays true to the SimCity formula. You've got your RCI, your roads, your railroads... uhhh... your police stations... taxes... graphs...

Yeah, this is a pretty basic SimCity. It's hard to describe when your first SimCity was SC4. What I'm trying to say is that this game's great for the time, and seemed to age incredibly well. It's city simulation factor is actually quite good for the SNES, and you've got a choice of over nine HUNDRED maps to choose from to settle your city... even though you've only got two save slots. How unfortunate.

Earning money is a pain in the rear. Having a positive balance is very easy, but waiting for a whole YEAR to collect that promised cash is really boring, especially when you're out of funds and on debt with the bank. There is a money cheat to help you, but that can kinda kill the experience, as your city will grow extremely quick if you know what you're doing.

The disaster engine is unique, featuring six possible disasters, including a funny Bowser attack where he just wrecks the crap out of your city and sets everything on fire. There's also a plane crash disaster which was probably cut from future SimCities for... obvious reasons.

The big hitter here is the MUSIC. It's perfect for a SimCity game and sounds incredible on the SNES - it's relaxing, easy on the ears and fits the mood perfectly. It changes depending on your cities' population number (Pre-Town, Town and City have different themes) and I think there's also a track when there's a disaster going on. Advisor warnings and etc too have their own songs.

Overall, great game, it's worth checking out even today.
