Is it good, or isn't it? I don't actually know...

This is a hard review for me to write, i have to say. The guy's at Climax have re-invented the classic PSone title: Silent Hill, changing almost everything about it, but keeping the same name's, and keeping to a few of the scene's from the first; like the school, hospital, etc.
The game start's off with a phychiatrist asking you a few personnal question's that effect the waythe game play's. After this you kick off your game in the dark snowie town of Silent Hill, with nothing but a flashlight and a mobile phone. Im going to give the positive's before i give the negative's, as there seem's to be more bad than good.

The good is that it looks gorgeous, it's one of the Wii's better looking titles, with lighting looking very realistic, weather effect's and facial animation, all looking crisp and great to look at. One thing Climax know how to get right, is a good story. They've done 3 games on Silent Hill, including this one, the previous two games were well written, but a little on the clear side. They've mended it this time... well kind of, the story is abit trippy (how Silent Hill should be) right till the very end, where we hit disappointment, but i won't spoil the ending. Overall though, while it isn't the original story in anyway, it is a pretty good story nonetheless. Another thing i really like is the motion controls. There brilliantly implemented: from how you hold the remote as a torch, to the inovative puzzles. They've actually tried to make it go with the Wii, instead of a half arsed gimmick, like most Wii titles.

The Bad is, while i do fully respect Climax for trying something new, i think they went abit too far with something's. The something being; you know when you go to the zoo in your car, and you drive round looking at all the animals? That's what this game is like. The only time you get to see the monsters (all one type of them!!) is when the world ice's over. So tension has been thrown out the window, because you know nothing is going to jump out at you.
The running away sequence's are mildly tense, but soon get old midway threw the game. And what really annoyed me, is there isn't a single boss! that's right, not one. They've turned the gameplay into a hollow shell, really. Like i say it's like when you go to the zoo and see the animals. You go around the town, site seeing, like the school, the hospital, the amusement park, you look round solving the odd puzzle, wait for it to ice over, runaway and repeat till the end of the game. That's my main gripe with the game, and one that's really disappointed me. They could have at the very least, gave us some bosses, or some gunplay, or even abit of vairety with the monsters.

Graphics: Brilliantly well made. Great character models, great lighting and an all round looker. 8

Sound: The last soundtrack composed by the amazing song writer, Akira Yamaoka. Another great score, and it's a bloody shame to see him leave. 9

Gameplay: There just isn't enough variety in the gameplay for me. Go to landmark in Silent Hill, solve inovative puzzle, wait for ice-over, repeat. That's it. No gunplay, no bosses and one type of enemy. 5

Sh*te Box: No Bosses. No Gunplay. Feel's onrail's some how. The story is good, but they've scrapped the religious bit to it, which annoys. Way, wayyyy too short.

Overall: Like i said, i respect Climax for trying something different with the series. But they went abit mad and ended up taking out too much. For the next game (if there is one, and hopefully there isn't, and they put this series to rest now, Akira Yamaoka has left), they should have the same inovative ideas, with an actual horror game attached.
