Shining Force set the road to many turn-based style rpg games. Though...In my opinion there's never been a release that came to the same height as SF. The direct follow up (Shining Force 2) got pretty close, but the slightly childish characters made it lose. All the characters of Shining Force are just bold, even the useless hamster Jogurt looks cool! Being a total role playing fan it saddens me that there aren't more games with a battle system like SF. Games like Final Fantasy, Phantasy Star and even Gorky 17 are the way to go nowadays. Controlling a large team of characters with all different skills seems to be a very unique thing. it saddens me that the modern Shining Force releases (Neo i.e.) don't use this kind of battle system anymore. It IS the strength of Shining Force. If you are into turn-based games or if you just like role playing then you're going to love Shining Force. So go dust off your MD or get yourself a Wii and play this masterpiece.
