I don't really see what's so special about it, it's an alright game, but nothing spectacular.

Shadows of the Damned, sales-wise tanked, but have received many positive reviews from critics, not least the Suda fanboys. I don't get it, I mean, the game is pretty good, but it's not a classic. I guess people praise it's humour, well, I found it to be the standard obnoxiously infantile humour found in japanese anime, oh, gee they're actually referring to sexual organs when seemingly talking about other things and vice-versa, you cannot skip any of the cutscenes, so if you hate the comedy, that's too bad, even though on paper, the comedy is incredibly unfunny, Greg Ellis, who voices Johnson (get it?) is excellent, great voice actor, and he makes some of the stuff slightly amusing. The story is lame, I don't like the main character at all, and besides, he has a chance to save his girlfriend at the beginning of the game, instead he opts to leave her to suffer in hell only so he could have another one of his "badass" lines, and we're supposed to like this guy? Let's just get over this, I didn't like the story, the characters, besides Johnson that is, and I didn't like the humour, but that doesn't matter that much as I liked the gameplay in general.

Shadows of the Damned is a fun shooter, not great, but enjoyable, you have some cool enemies, and three excellent weapons which receive some pretty neat upgrades throughout the game, The Dentist being my favorite. Blasting the head off of demons is really satisfying, and you get that awesome slow motion effect. Some of the boss fights are quite fun as well, although they are not very challenging, not even the final boss, which I thought was far too easy. I did feel the darkness would appear far too often. When "the darkness" comes you have a certain amount of time to bring light to the area, otherwise you die. There aren't many puzzles in the game, only the one in the library took me some time to finally get right. The game looks good, I must say there were quite a few glitches, the level with the walls and staircases you have to rotate, has a few places where you can just walk on the air. The game is around 8 hours long, which is pretty fair nowadays. I wasn't very impressed, but it's not a bad game.
