The best futuristic RPG known to man.

User Rating: 8.7 | Shadowrun GEN
Shadowrun is a game few have really heard of. It is on both Snes, and Genesis. The game was released in 1993. It is a very good game, in fact one of the best on Sega Genesis. Shadowrun is a futuristic RPG. To be exact, the game takes place around the year 2050 A.D. you play as main character Jake along with other elves, etc. who are called shadowrunners because they dwell in the shadows, kill, etc.

The graphics on the Genesis are different than on the SNES. As you can guess, the SNES version does look better but it also has a little bit different view point. It is more isometric when the Genesis version is a top view. Imagine the SNES versions view like Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 on the GBA even though it has no relation ship to the game and the Genesis being a bird's eye view. Both versions have very good graphics for there time.

In the game you get great weapons, guns, knives and more and it has much of the elements other traditional RPG games have, like Final Fantasy but it also adds weapons that haven't been commonly seen in the RPG genre. The controls are pretty sharp but it's all in the D-pad since analog stick weren't even around on home consoles back in 1994, and besides I think the D-Pad works better because it is a 2D game. The game is very hard, a lot of times frustrating but very fun. You can just walk into places and question the inhabitants in them, you select from a list of questions. For example, you may choose "Where is ------?" and then the guy will respond in either a good way or bad way. A lot of the times you are fighting street thugs and the game is not turn-based either. You can get lots of magic and classic moves like "heal." Cool item shops with cool stocks of items.

The music is wonderful on both systems. It all sounds about the same. Since this is the only game in the series, besides the upcoming Xbox 360 sequel which apparently will be nothing like this one, this game has a stunning new soundtrack.

Really, the game isn't too long but it is hard and I replayed it a few times. Perfect if your looking for a good challenge.
