Take a ton of fun minigames and wrap them around the Rugrats series and you get this.

I must admit that when I first got this game, which was mid-PS (not PS1), I was a little concerned it would be too childish. Well I was right. But I had a lot of fun anyways.

The gameplay was basically you, as Tommy, running around trying to find the missing puzzle pieces to your Reptar puzzle. Thing is, you have to go through near hell to get them all. When I first got this game, I played from about noon, until 9 that night. I played it all that time. And I beat it. Albeit not 100%, but I beat it. Later on I culd walk through the entire game with little or no hassle. And it was fun. People seem to forget that in games these days. The game is a bunch of mini-games rolled into one. In one game you play golf at the same putting course as in the cartoon. In another you have to fight the evil clown robots. In another you have to race Angelica to find Easter eggs. In another you run around the super-market that Grandpa took Tommy to.

The graphics were bad, even for mid-PS. The best way to describe it would be pre-cell art. The levels could also be described in the same way. The house was the same house as in the series, not a detail changed. Along the way you could pick up a ball or a toy truck and throw it around, talk to Spike, open the fridge, open doors. One of the better moments of the game is just in walking around and exploring the little space you have.

The sound was the interesting part. The music sounds manmade, which is what the creators of the show also wanted it to sound like. The voices of the original cast are there. Of course, Chucky can be annoying sometimes. Especially in the Lights Out level. Some environment sounds are recognizable from the cartoon.

I dont really know how many hours I wasted in front of this game. But it was all worth it just to get to the end and play as Reptar and rampage around the city. Attack the the THQ building and the news announcer would say "This just in, Reptar has completely destroyed the THQ building. Luckily everyone was at lunch." Its just the kind of comedy a 10 year would enjoy.

I liked the Rugrats cartoon when I was young, remembering this game makes me wish I had never gotten rid of it. Now that Rugrats has Grown Up, it'll never be the same.
