Rocksmith is a game for people who actually want to learn how to play guitar.

User Rating: 7.5 | Rocksmith PS3
Believe it or not. Video games can be a tool for education and this game proves it. Not only does it prove that learning and playing can be fun, but actually it takes it to the next level with the newest technology from Ubisoft. Having plugged a real guitar was the answer for games like Rock Band 3 and Guitar Hero. Ladies and Gentlemen, prepare to pack up all your plastic instruments into their boxes, but not so fast.

Presentation:

The presentation here is the biggest flaw in the game, not only it suffers from constant auto-save data wherever you select a tab from the menu, but the loading times are always trying your patience. It's also confusing especially at first, because it's sort of a messy menu in my humble opinion. When it comes to browsing the menu, it's a drag. They may look like a simple commands of Songs, Guitarcade, AMP "amplifer" and so on, but the confusion that inflicts the player is annoying.

Score: 4.5/10

Graphics:

Graphically, the game is nothing special. It's good, that doesn't it's bad or anything. I think Rocksmith doesn't need to have a pretty graphics, because it's not the type of game where you want to have fun. It's the type of game where you want to learn more than play. Fortunately, there are no issues such glitches or frame rates. Though it needs to be polished a little.

Score: 6/10

Sound:

Rocksmith converts your HDTV into a built-in amplifier that lets you play real-time guitar in your TV. It's good, the technology works perfectly great. The sound is an equivalent to an expensive amplifier. That may save up some money for you. Of course, it also depends on the type of guitar you have. Any decent quality guitar would do. I was really satisfied with the sound. The fact that I could play songs with my own playing is never boring nor repetitive. It's just an awesome experience.

Score: 9/10

Gameplay:

Like I said, you need your own guitar "real one" to play. The game comes with USB cable, but a special one for the guitar.

Also, the first time you plug your guitar and insert the disc, it will ask you to tune your guitar and that's through the built-in tuner in the game. It's actually pretty good, I am a beginner guitar, I've improved a little because of Rocksmith, but I've always had problems with tuning up my guitar and this method works great.

The game needs to be repetitive, that way makes the player learns faster. When you start a song, you will again tune up your guitar. Here's the problem, the repetitive processes of tuning is annoying and sometimes leads to frustration, because it's every time. Even if you were playing the same song over and over, it always asks you to do the same thing.

The library of songs are from the past and present. Bands like the Rolling Stones, Pixie, Radiohead, Queen from the Stone Age, are all there. But famous rock bands like Linkin Park, Green Day, U2, System of Down, Bullet in my Valentines ..etc. aren't found in the game. You have more than 50 songs to play. Each song trains you to be a letter guitarist. It starts relatively easy. The more you score points, the more chords you will have to play.

Some songs have even acoustic sound to them, and some of them have both acoustic and electric guitar.

Chord: Means the acoustic guitar part of the song.
Combo: Means the electric guitar part of the song.

Like I said, the technology is working perfectly fine. However not with the problems the game has.

Score: 9/10

General Pros and Cons:

^_^ Educational Guitar Game

^_^ Your Real Guitar Instrument

^_^ Real-time Sound from your own guitar

-_- Constant Auto-save

-_- Repetitive tuning process

-_- Confusing Menu

Score: 6.5/10

Conclusion:

I really like Rocksmith, don't mind the score that I'm going to give the game because it's worth getting if you're interested in learning guitar. Though skillful guitarist may find this game a bit not challenging, but beginner guitarists, step into one of the most revolutionary games. I can see another guitar game from Ubisoft with improved features. The issues that are mentioned above can be ignored if you're willing to learn guitar.
