Fantastic game, the best RR next to the 360 and PS3 versions.
the gameplay in RR is similar to the other RR games mentioned. You have a single race mode, a world tour mode, a multiplayer mode and a time attack mode. I spent most of my time in the World Tour mode. This is where you start off in the first class and progress through the races, usually racing 3 - 6 races in a group. You have to place 4th to 1st, depending on the race, to progress and usually have to place 1st to finish the tour. Once you do you will unlock the courses and cars needed in other modes or later in the tour. The course in RR are from previous RR games, but with a fantastic face lift. The rave city course with ferris wheel and fireworks is fantastic to see. The controls are very good and although it can sometimes be difficult to see the turns coming, due to the small screen size, it is not a big issue. This is also the RR game that introduced nitrous boost. When you drift around corners at high speed you build your nitrous gauge up and can get a big speed boost for a short time. The effects when boosting are pretty cool. I prefer arcade racers over the simulation type, so this game is awesome in my opinion.
Graphics
The graphics are fantastic, especially considering this was a first generation PSP game. They are far superior to any Ridge Racer before it on any platform. Only rivaled by the 360 and PS3 versions in HD. The graphics are detailed, have a great frame rate, and the replays are excellent. The lighting effects on the cars are also spectacular and really show what the PSP is capable of. Conclusion
There are many other touches to the game, like savable replays, motion blur and camera shaking when viewing the replays, custom sound track selection, custom car colors and more. I have been playing this game non stop for many weeks and it is very hard to put down. I am only about 60% through the World Tour and have unlocked all but one track. If you like Ridge Racer games, then you owe it to yourself to own this game, especially since it is now a Greatest Hits game. Don't wait, go buy it now and start enjoying a superb game.
