Ridge Racer: Racing fast and looking great doing it! Ridge Racer for the PSP is one of the top PSP launch titles. It has such a great feel and works perfect to the PSP abilities, Graphics are just a plus in this game from the beautiful scenery to the cars them self. You’ll be playing this game and just crash into a wall because you’ll just want to look at the great graphics it has to offer. After finally getting over what this portable can do time to really get into the game. The menus are very simple which to me is great. There are a total of 4 different game modes which include World Tour, Single Race, Time Attack and Wireless Battle (Which you can play up to 8 players at 1 time). There are a total of 24 tracks and 6 car classes and 1 special class which consist of 63 cars which all have alternative colors to choose from. Now that I have my car chosen and my track set time to race. The sense of speed in this game I think is great with the blur effect and Nitrous boost. At 1st you will be a little weary of the drifting on turns if you’re new to the Ridge Racer series, but after you get past that which takes about 20 minutes to get use to the controls you will have a blast playing. Drifting and doing donuts on the road can be extremely fun. Each race will last about 5-10 min but if you need to shut off the PSP no worries pause the game and shut it off and it will save where you last left off. Last but not least the sound effects on the cars are great as well as the music sound tracks but after a while the soundtrack gets kind of dull being it’s only techno tracks. I would like to see in future PSP games they ability to use custom tracks. Overall this game is a great choice for any racing fan. I’m suggesting this as a top launch title and #1 over Need for Speed Rivals. This game will show what the PSP can do at just launch and only better things can come. In the end I’m a little disappointed that the game doesn’t support online play. There are ways to tunnel but it’s a little of a hassle to setup but is great and I do suggest to try it if you have the hardware to do so cause WIFI is extremely fun. I also would have loved some licensed cars that would have been nice but the fact of the matters doesn’t need it because the game is solid none the less. One last thing that isn’t completely needed 1 more view type there are only 2 views of the car to choose from. Bottom line Graphics: 9.3/10 - The game has some of the best graphics and backgrounds for a launch title I ever seen being on a portable. Sound/Music: 8.0/10 - While the sounds for the car are well done soundtrack gets repetitive. Game-play: 9.0/10 - This game is awesome and very simple to jump into a race. And controls are right where they should be. Replay Value: 8.6 – there are tons of tracks and cars to choose from which will keep you coming back. I did wish to see online play though. Final Score/Verdict – 8.9/10 – Great game a must have I think when buying your PSP or at least rent it’s definitely a must try game at least that much. This game is showing the best of the system and what we can look forward to. This is the 1st time ever doing something like this I always wanted to try and would love to hear what you think and suggestions when I do another one. Thanks for taking the time to read it.
