A very unique gem of a survival horror game. A total improvement from the first and unbelievably engaging.

User Rating: 8.5 | Resident Evil 2 (UK) PS
Resident Evil 2 is the sequel to the first game and is absolutely the perfect representation that you'd want from the genre. The balance between action and puzzle is almost perfectly balanced, and the story keeps you going. With many different ways to experience the story by playing from different perspectives, it really adds depth and the story is no chore to experience again as the other character.
The game's setting is very absorbing and is executed perfectly. The music really works, and the artwork is great. The acting is dramatically improved from the previous game and provides us with a reasonably bearable performance. We actually feel the characters now and the cutscenes are a big part of the experience. With more story momentum and drama on top of the intense sequences, the game is much more enjoyable now.
The controls are still 'tank-like' and the gameplay is almost the same, but it works so much better in Resident Evil 2 because the game utilizes each aspect so perfectly. The puzzles aren't unbelievably difficult anymore, and with a bit of screwing around, can be figured out.

The good:
-Story is greatly improved from the first and really gives you the best the genre has to offer.
-Acting and characters are quite good for a game of this genre, and age.
-The background environments are detailed and moody. The atmosphere is perfect.
-The music is creepy and really gives you the feel of the situation.
-The new cast of characters are great. Sherry will be showing up in Resident Evil 6, which makes this game even more relevant.
-More intense gameplay sequences and scares.
-The game doesn't feel like a chore to play multiple times in different perspectives.

The bad:
-Game still jumps around in terms of what you should do or where you should go next.
-Lack of on-screen health indicator is very crippling in times of need, and would be heaven to have.
-Minor aiming troubles.

This game deserves a solid 8.5 in my book and definitely be played by someone getting into the Resident Evil series. Don't fret that Resident Evil 1 might go way over your head with it's gameplay struggles, Resident Evil 2 is something to look forward to and should definitely be a follow up to someone who's completed the first Resident Evil title.
