C'mere Sheriff!

User Rating: 9.4 | Red Dead Revolver XBOX
Red Dead Revolver is an action game, on a Wild West setting, which is simply too cool for words.

STORY: Red’s dad died when he was a young boy, shot by bandits(?). Now a grown man, Red wants revenge for the pain inflicted on him by his dad’s killers. Searching for his own justice, Red will meet up with various characters, fight numerous thugs and villains ... and you, the player, get the best of it.

GRAPHICS:
Red Dead Revolver’s visual style is simply awesome. With perfect sceneries and sun-flare effects, the game really puts you into the ol’ west setting. The animation of the characters is fluid and natural, amongst the best I’ve seen in this console. Buildings are well designed as well as the characters themselves.

MUSIC / SOUND EFFECTS:
A very nice soundtrack puts you into the mood, with all the classic wild west sounds present, like gunshots, spurs, horses’ neigh, everything. The various vocal insults, cries or comments from your enemies are very nicely done. In short, the game’s sound does a tremendous job in putting you in the Wild West.

GAMEPLAY:
A 3rd person camera works perfectly fine in this game, although some might think that a 1st person view would be better in game-terms. In atmosphere terms, I couldn’t be happier. There is a stage in which a gang of outlaws is positioned in various houses, and you must shoot them all. When I was walking slowly in the streets, taking cover when a sniper would suddenly come out and shoot, I couldn’t help but feel like I was Clint Eastwood or Steve Mcqueen or something. Shooting, stealth, as well as classic ol’west duels are the primary gameplay core of Red Dead Revolver. All the game is totally linear, but that doesn’t really matter since there is a decent (for an action game) storyline, many characters, lots of action and thrills.

The game’s difficulty is just above right, maybe a wee bit harder than it should be, but the game itself is a tremendous reward for all the troubles your character will go through.

OVERALL:
Red Dead Revolver is awesome, from the beginning to the end. With multiple characters, great sprite colission, many missions, a challenging difficulty and an amazing West-like soundtrack, this game was like an action-anime version of “The Good, The Bad and the Ugly”. Except it’s no anime ... and has no relation with the film’s storyline. But c’mon, it’s action wild wild west style, beautifully executed! What’s not to like?
