@USDevilDog: The phone requirement isn't anything unique for a F2P game, how exactly do you combat people creating unlimited accounts? Smurfing is bad enough in OW1 with paid accounts when it goes on sale every other month, the influx of 'new' accounts tear through ranked matches and ruin the quality of the games while they get back up to their actual rank. Imagine that 10x fold minimum if the accounts could be created without any limitations.
RE: role queue, open queue has been a thing for years now.
@rizenstrom: this article was written with every component included to ensure maximum visibility on a Google search, ticks all the boxes for their algorithm. It's not even designed to be a read, just to be 'found' for clicks and ad revenue.
Great interview Tamoor and Lucy, it's actually rare to see such well-though out questions from interviewers who clearly have played the game and understand its history of ups and downs.
@gamerboy100: Exactly, such a detailed interview with well-thought questions and responses, but all you get is the same tired comments about lootboxes, F2P/battle pass and the fact this is being called 'Overwatch 2'.
There are significant changes to the overall game, the biggest being 5v5 and the move away from shields and stun abilities which basically ruined the game and caused so many people to abandon it. From what I've seen in the first beta, the focus is on team-play, but with a strong opportunity for individual carry-potential which is less possible in the current game.
Regarding the new F2P model, there is ZERO pay 2 win, the battle pass is purely for cosmetics. No one needs cosmetics, if you want to support the game and development of it, then go ahead and buy them. At least this model will fund the game and allow it to continue to receive updates with content. Clearly the previous 'buy once' model is outdated for a live-service game.
@dominicwow: the article is wrong, when it launches everyone will be updated to the new version. You won't be able to play OW1 whether you like it or not. They have been saying this since it was announced in 2019
