back in the day, there were three choices. 8800GT, 8800GTS, or 8800GTX. The 8800GTS was the worst choice. It was weaker than the GTX but equal to the GT, despite the GT being cheaper[QUOTE="jhcho2"]

If I had to choose between the two the 8800GTS 512 would be the choice.

Not true in this case. The 8800 GTS 320 and 640mb cards were the 96-core cards that came out in 2006. They were weaker than the 8800GT. The 8800GTS 512mb was the later version that came out after the 8800 GT. It used the 128 core G92 GPU. This GPU was more powerful than the 112 core G92 that the 8800gt used. The GPU itself (memory subsystem notwithstanding) is also slightly more powerful than the 8800 GTX with both cards at stock speeds. When both cards are overclocked, it's a dead heat. The GTS used less power than the GTX because it was a 65nm card.
My personal choice would be the 8800 GTS 512. The GPU on that card is essentially the same as a GTS 250.
So essentially you're saying they're the same when it comes to performance? I saw on videocardbenchmark.net that the 8800GTS 512mb outperforms the 8800GTX? I found that a bit odd since the GTX is supposed to be the higher end card (of the time)?interesting. forgot to mention I'm going to be playing a couple of games like dayz, css, cs 1.6. and maybe the new cod.If I had to choose between the two the 8800GTS 512 would be the choice.

Well the 7750 is not an option as people aren't selling that on my local craigslist..if PCI-E, get a 7750
anything else is nonsensical and a waste of money

Yes srs.
I'm still on a socket 939 motherboard (Opteron 180) don't want to redo my system just yet.
Looking at either a 8800 GTS 512mb for $30
or
an 8800GTX 768mb for $40.
which should I bite the bullet on?
Thanks in advance for the help.
