[QUOTE="mattuk69"]

IMO Nintendo calling it 3DS was a mistake. It gives the impression to devs they need to make a 3D game. And the impression to consumers the games they buy will be in 3D. If they named it something like Nintendo AdvancedDS:P They could of put on the box if it was 3D compatible or not. You can't put not 3D compatible for a platform that has 3D in its name. Its like buying a blu-ray with a DVD disc inside.

Thoughts?

El_Zo1212o

Actually, it's exactly like buying a blu ray player- any bluray player will also play dvds. Any 3ds game can be played with 3D on or off. You could even say it's like buying a bluray combo pack- watch the bluray version or the dvd.

It's more like buying a 3D t.v. so that you can get better refresh rates. You don't even need to use the 3D to get the benefit from the system it's just higher quality than a non 3D system.

In the T.V. space a 3D capable t.v. has much higher refresh rate because they have to flash the image on screen 2x as fast with active or passive lens'. However the benefit is that the higher refresh rate will make even 2D content look cleaner and crisper and gaming will be better as well.

The 3DS uses a different technology so it's not the same in that respect. I don't know if the 3Ds gets better refresh rates. However the build quality, the capabilities, and the hardware are just great. I dont' know what features this touts over a DSi, since I skipped that gen, but in my opinion, if you haven't gotten off of your DS or DS Lite you owe it to yourself to get a 3DS. Actually you should have gotten it the week of the price drop whether you got it 1 day early from Target or Wal-Mart or you bought it earlier and asked them to fullfill a 14 day price change guarantee so that you could get the awesome hardware and free games.

I mean the DSi used to be the same price that the 3DS is, but the other consoles got a price drop. So really everyone is benefitting if they wanted to upgrade or replace an aging or dying unit of an older generation. 2GB SD card isn't the greatest, but it's a nice addition. Especially considering the fact that there are some REALLY good DSi games to be bought and some interesting 3DS ones will come out.

As long as they don't segment the 3DS market I'm happy with my purchase. If they add a second analog stick to the thing next year I'll be fine as long as developers don't start making it mandatory to use. The 3DS is pretty solid. Especially at its current price point. It really just needs games. So as soon as a the next 100 something pokemon are released on a 3DS series, the console will probably explode.

Hindsight is 20/20. Sony shouldn't have released the PS3 with dual 256MB memory chips so that they could have had a cross game chat feature. Microsoft shouldn't have tried to force Xbox LIve Gold on PC gamers. Apple should have made the Mac more gamer friendly...

At the end of the day though... it doesn't matter. I don't think calling it the DS3, would have made a stronger impact. Maybe Mario Kart will just be better when you have the 3D on. Maybe it won't have an impact. It's better than people give it credit for. Maybe they could have gone with higher definition cameras. That would have been nice. At the end fo the day though... it depends on the quality of their games OTHER than ______ 64 in 3D library.

The DSi ware is strong enough as it is, but not so strong that it's a good idea to save some money and just get a DSi instead. I'd say stick with your nintendo handheld until you're compelled enough to get a 3DS. But prices went down no matter how you look at it, so... it's a good thing IMO.

Originally Nintendo Fanboys were called sheep...

Microsoft Fanboys were called Lemmings...

Sony Fanboys were called Cows...

PC Fanboys were hermits...

Now Sony has provided a product in which they make virtually no hardware sales on... While Microsoft is demanding you pay for everythign INCLUDING themes, icons, online gaming access, and even proprietary HDDs....

What should Sony fanboys be now? Shouldn't these be updated? After all my PS3's accessory collection is:

1. Bluetooth Remote that was on sale. I only bought it because it was on sale I use the controller more often anyway.

2. EyeToy which came with Eye of Judgement and I got it around the cost of a PS3 game anyway. You can't say taht the boosters are Sony's fault cause it's a Wizards of the Coast Game and booster packs are always what card games have been about...

3. Memory card to USB adapter. I mean after all I sold my PS2 to get a discount on a PS3 (before my PS2 died from too many years and WAY too many hours into that system) and copying the memory card data was important because I wanted to save some money by selling the memory cards.

4. Controller recharge stand... It was there, it was cheap, it was cool looking... I bought it. Had no reason to but felt it would make things slightly easier but not enough to call it neccessary.

5. HDMI cable for 5 dollars after shipping from Amazon.

My bluetooth headset works with the PS3 as does my generic USB headset. I can upgrade to a 320GB HDD for the same price as a 360's 120GB HDD, I didn't need to pay any money to go online with teh PS3 or play people online. My guitar controllers were wireless from day 1... no need to purchase wireless controllers...

I also didn't have to pay for a wifi adapter, or a High Def video drive... Every accessory I bought was on sale, cheap, and completely unneccessary (well the camera was kinda necessary)

Sony doesn't sell Proprietary memory cards that you HAVE to buy. You can buy an adapter for a microSD card for your PSP even from most AT&T stores. You can also use Micro SD, and Compact Flash which Sony gets no profits off of. They don't profit off of the hard drive, nor wifi adapters, or blu-ray drives, or anything. So can we REALLY be being milked if we get so much for so little?

Shoudln't the fanboy descriptions be updated?

Are people on here really that lazy?.Just shut the system off when not in use...smh.

bluegender

1. Yes we are that lazy.

2. Well... if you shut it off on the back... your'e most likely going to end up lowering your console's life expectancy by causing power spikes.

If you think spiders laying eggs in their mates body which end up hatching inside of it's body and then killing the parent only to eat it's body, mantis' biting off the males head, etc... then yes the world is beautiful...

Honestly the world is natural. I see nature as a struggle both disgusting and beautiful equally so take a pick and decide. Life can not be beautiful without ugliness just as light can not exist without the darkness.

My CPU is a dual core 1.9 Ghz AMD processor. Athalon 64. My video card is worthless. 64 MB. Can't play games that I don't already own really... That's why I didn't mention those. I know my video card is crap and my CPU is plenty powerful for the game.

My PC right now is 1Gig of RAM. I know that Blizzard is scaleable. I'll have the money for a higher end PC most likely. I just don't want to spend 1k-1.5k and then need to upgrade later on again. Of course I'm not looking so much into prices of PCs as a whole but what people think the system requirements might look like.

I don't game much on computers lately. I can buld them myself, network them, even do some minor programming. I'm fairly knowledgable about computers, I just perfer most games for consoles rather than comptuers so I really haven't been paying attention to system requirements.

Everyone knows you don't get a computer htat reaches the minimum system requirements. You need something that surpasses the reccommended if you want to make it look nice and have any sort of multitasking going on in the background.

With all that said, based on current pc requirements, and how the games Diablo III and Starcraft II look, what should be the minimum system requirements I should shoot for to make the recommended.

I'm thinking about going 2 routes. 1 route is Alienware portable gaming machine. You know the hardware beasts that cost a lot but have great quality. Is alienware like it used to be, has it imporved, or depleted since Dell got involved?

The other option is to build my own from the ground up. I assume Blizzard will do like they always have done and allow you to play Diablo III on Mac computers as WELL as XP machines. I will most likely be running XP since most people agree Vista isn't that great. I do want it powerful enough to run those games ON VISTA just incase there's a reason to upgrade at a later date.

Honestly I'm hoping to get a job pretty soon that will pay me well enough that I could easily drop a few hundred down every paycheck towards a new pc. I will probably be willing to spend up to 3-5k on it but I dno't want to go too expensive.

I'm comming here to ask this question so I can start looking at computer prices and kinda have an idea what to shoot for, what people think the system requirements are going to be like, so I can do some price comparisons, some estimations, etc...

I'll make this easier on you by helping you break things down.

1. Do you own a PS2? If not do you plan on playing PS2 games? If you do not have a PS2 and want to play PS2 games then you need the 60 gig version most likely. The 80 gig version has less compatibility for various reasons.

2. Do you enjoy FPS games more than any other genre? If so you should probably stick with the 360 until PS3 starts getting their exclusives.

3. Would you like online capabilities without having to pay monthly for online access on it? PS3 is free to play online on generally. There is no Xbox Live membership needed. Or any other membership really.

4. Would you like to surf the web in your living room? Watch Youtube videos on the couch? Then this is a selling point for the PS3.

5. Do you have a PSP? If you do then there are many things you can do between the 2. If you do have one, the more you like it, the more points for the PS3 you can input here. I love going to a coffee shop and listening to music or even playing games on my PS3 from my PSP and then turning off the system.

6. Do you love graphics more than almost anything else? Well technically speaking (GTA IV as well as Mirror's Edge developers have confirmed this) the PS3 has the most graphical capabilities. SOME games don't come as close... but others do.

7. Do RPGS and JRPGs interest you? Well then Disgaea 3 would probably interest you and it's loaded with ATLEAST 120 hours of gameplay. Probably up to a few hundred hours. That game to me is worth the cost of the PS3. I've put over 200 hours onto the first game, over 180 to the second game (but I haven't even gotten close to finishing the extra stuff on the second game where as the first game i've nearly conquered it) and I will probably end up putting 200-300 hours onto the 3rd game. Sure some RPGs are exclusive, and some games are exclusive etc... etc... but more the Xbox 360 is the ONLY system that has no need for exclusives. PS3 has better graphics, motion controls, Wii has the most motion controls, and the most uses for their controller, and Xbox 360 is an Xbox with more Ram and Vram and sometimes no hard drive and other time a bigger hard drive. Also considering Blu Ray is far more storage capable that means some PS3 exclusives CAN NOT make the jump to 360 but ALL 360s games would be able to.

Finally my question is this, do you need to get the PS3 now? Do you just want it now? What exactly? What I would suggest is picking a number of games that would make the system feel worth it to you. For me a system has to have 5 exclusives for me to want it. 360 hasn't reached that number yet and some of the games are comming over to the PS3. Ninja Gaiden 2, Star Ocean 4, possibly Mass Effect (not sure about that one yet) are game that interest me. Bioshock is going to teh PS3, Gears of War 3 will be on the PS3, and some other games are losing exclusivity. 2 games just won't do it for me UNLESS they are games that have shaped my entire view of gaming. For me the countless hours I have enjoyed the Disgaea series has bought my loyalty and to me those games were more than enough.

Why did I get a PS3? Because my PS2 was dying, and if I traded it in I could get money. I bought a 60 gig, Trauma Center Second Opinion, Resistance Fall of Man, and GoW 2 and the PS3 for 600 dollars roughly (after tax) when I had plenty of money and needed to salvage my PS2 before the sale went out. If I didnt sell it, there was a possibility my PS2 would have gone out and then over 100 games of my collection would be unplayable until I payed more money. So I bought it to ensure I could continue to play games. Of course the best news is, it's very reliable and I have only had it freeze on me 1 or 2 times out of the year I've owned it and the countless hours we've used it for. No failures. No issues, no overheating.

I'm not trying to persuade you to buy it, I'm trying to help you have the critical thinking required to allow you to make your decision. If you want my honest opinion on wether or not it's worth it, I say that it's not yet there for everyone yet, but dont' worry, it will be. If not now, probably a little later this year. That's my honest opinion. Eventually yes it will be worth while for everyone. Just like the PS2. I still don't think I'd enjoy having a 360 nearly as much, or if there will be enough games to make me want one bad enough. Honestly though, if Disgaea 3 was comming out for 360 instead, I probably would have bought one by now.

So look at the games you want, and when they'll be released. Then give them 6 months from that date if they haven't been delayed yet (this is becomming true of all consoles) and then plan to buy the PS3 then. :P

*edit* 1 side note. If you go for the 40 gig version, remember you can always increase the HDD size. They are SATA hard drives and you can buy the hard drives it takes for about 170 dollars will get you 250 gigs. Compare that to 180 dollars for 120 gigs for the 360's hard drives. The PS3 installs 5 gigs for ALL big name titles. Devil May Cry 4, Metal Gear Solid 4, etc... It does this to lower load times and allow better graphical capabilities. That means about 7 games will fill up a 40 gig roughly. Not smaller games like Heavenly Sword, Assassins Creed, etc.. but the more Epic type of games.

[QUOTE="Rob_101"]Go over to zunescene.com, read some of the stuff over there, ask or browse the forums, don't trust microsoft.americahellyeah

the truth!

Exactly. Microsoft is about as usefull as Windows ME. LAST RESORT. Cause we all know they are wonderful in anything they do and are empathetic to their customers issues... Like 360 and the RRoD XD.

Basically I suggest reinstalling the Zune software. Also only use the Zune software when transferring media. That's my recommendation. Honetsly there are a LOT better programs that consume MUCH less data for video and music needs. I never have my Zune software open unless my Zune is connected to the PC. The Zune isn't a bad media player at all. I perfer it over the Ipod and I know a lot of people who dont' like the Ipod series that love the Zune. It's the ONLY thing of Microsoft that I love and support. (Maybe cause I only paid 150 for one in near mint condition. I could have gotten it for 100 but I felt that helping someone get college books was more important than me having an extra 50 dollars so I paid more than he was asking for it)
