The people who are saying it is so much cheaper to develop for Wii therefore it won't matter if they have cross platform gaming don't grasp the fact that Every game made needs a team to develop it. Wii games still eat up manhours, and would require a specific development team just for wii. Sure Wii has a good sized audience, but it still does not warrant a game company creating a seperate division just to make games for them. These big time gaming companies have already taken steps towards the next generation, and they will not be turning back any time soon. We are in the HD era and sooner or later the price point of the 360 and ps3 will get down to a reasonable price and that will be the end of Wii as a force in gaming. What alot of people do not realize is that video game consoles are never dominant in their first year, or second year. What happens is that as time progresses the high end consoles become more attainable, and when that happens the average user will 9/10 times prefer to buy a ps3 over a wii.
Truth is that common gamers cannot afford a Ps3, but that does not mean that they do not want one. Infact I'd argue that people would choose a ps3 over a wii in a heartbeat if they were anywhere near the same price. I can't afford a 50 inch plasma screen TV, but if I ever saw one within my price range it would be purchased immediately. So as soon as ps3 get's a price cut and more and more people join the HD era a 360 or ps3 will be the only logical choice. Game companies know this, and they will perhaps throw wii a few more ps2 era games but in the end the next generation is here, and Wii is just a toy with last gen graphics. Wii has a two year lifespan before it is exactly like gamecube, and after that it will be intolerable to accept the wii as a serious contender for the next gen crown. Wii will have 3rd pt support, but the games they make will pale in comparison to the next gen consoles.
