No, this isn't a rant against Sony, just the warranty with the PS3. I apologize if someone else said something about this...
Okay, so I was thinking of upgrading my HDD to a bigger size, but I didn't want to void the warranty. So instead of just buying a 250GB HDD at Compusa, I decided to go home and read over the warranty. This is when I realized how sc3w3d you are if just about ANYTHING happens to it. The following is what is stated in my manual for that void the warranty (which only lasts 1 year after purchase anyway):
This warranty shall not apply if this product is (A) used with products that are not compatible with this product (B) is used for commercial purposes (including rental) (C) Is modified, or tampered with (D) is damaged by acts of God, misuse, abuse, accident, wear and tear, unreasonable use, or by other causes unrelated to defective materials of workmanship (E) Has had the serial number altered, defaced, or removed: or (F) has had the warranty seal on the PS3 Systemaltered, defaced, or removed.
Also, since I don't feel like typing the second part of it, I'll shorten it up. Basically, it states if SCEA has a "reasonable" evidence they had nothing to do with the system breaking or w/e,that voids the warranty as well. I think that's pretty much it for that stuff.
I just wanted to say something about the warranty because people in that PS3 HDD upgrade instruction thing kept saying "it doesn't void the warranty" which is what made me almost upgrade the HDD. But, with as much stuff that people actually needa warranty for, this hardly seem worth it. I remember once when I bought a Halo edition Xbox (don't flame me for owning anXbox a long time ago) when it came out a few years ago from EBgames they actually had a 2 yr. plan that covered all the thing stated in part Dof the bolded area above. Since I got the PS3 when the 60GB went cheap at wal-mart, that warranty wasn't offered as far as I know.
It hardly seems worth it for me to wait to upgradeuntil the warranty dies in late August of this year to upgrade, considering if my PS3 would die, it would most likelybe from one of the things listed above. And if it weren't, I have an odd feeling SCEA would find a "reasonable" to void the warranty.
So, I'm curious, what are your thoughts on the standard warranty that comes with the PS3? Do you have any stories when the warranty didn't work out for you? And, I ask again, don't flame me because I owned the original Xbox some time ago.
