lol Good times. I agree, incidentally, that the best way for me to play PS2 games... is to buy another PS2. It's cool, I'll probably just hang on to this 80 gb, and hope that good PS2 games become DLC.

I guess I have a question about the 80 gig's supposed compatibility with some of the PS1 games. How does saving work when running a PS1 game on the PS3? I picked up a memory card adapter, but haven't opened it yet "just in case". The game that I am most interested in doing this with is FFVII. Does anyone know if this game is one of the lucky ones that will play on the 80gb PS3? And does saving work?

Just buy a PS2 if BC is that important to you. As for the remote, only folks with all-in-one IR's seem to care. I'm perfectly happy with my bluetooth bluray remote. As for the execution, I'm not sure how faulty hardware, minimal BC, expensive proprietary HDD, and lack of built-in wireless counts toward "better executed".

Give yourself a high-five; you deserve it.

Purchasing a 360, there are very clear cut facts about BC. You need a harddrive, and here's a list of games that are BC. Sony on the other hand, offers seemingly random console models that may or may not have "limited" BC. Which sounds more structured to you? High-five!

So far as the IR goes... of course only people with good universal remotes care. If I was still using one remote per component, I wouldn't have mentioned it. High-five!

Faulty hardware. Yes, this is a valid point; the 360s at launch were pretty terrible from a hardware reliability standpoint. I actually had to send mine in to Microsoft not two months ago, so I'm not blind to the 360's faults. Can you really tell me that there haven't been recurring defects in the PS3 family of consoles? High-five.

Finally, "Just buy a PS2 if BC is that important to you". Wow. Your input is both original and helpful. Analogies fail me... But go ahead. High-five.

Rockin, guys. :) Thanks for the feedback. I've been reading some other stuff about the PS3- I'm so productive at work- and man! Is Sony kinda retarded, or what? No IR remote capability? And the remotes available for the PS3 don't have IR capability so as to work the rest of my stuff? I don't consider myself an XBox fanboy or anything... it just really seems like the PS3 has been a huge SNAFU for Sony and the 360, flaws and all, has been a better executed platform this time around.

Yesterday I gave up on the Wii, and traded it in for an 80 gb PS3. I'd looked around on Sony's site and looked at some backwards compatibility stuff, but I hadn't realized that Sony was so finnicky about each single model series having varying capabilities. What happened in the end is that I ended up with a PS3 that has "limited" support for PS1 games, and no support for PS2 games.

I've since been trying to decide whether or not it is worth it to go to Gamestop and trade in the 80 gb for a 60 gb model, or if the risk of a breakdown with the 60 gb is just too high. Furthermore, what is the general sort of "feeling" by the PS3 community on whether the pronounced lack of backwards compatibility by Sony is going to result ultimately in DLC PS2 titles, or is this indicative of Sony ultimately letting titles like the PS2 Final Fantasy titles fall by the wayside? Don't get me wrong, I didn't buy a PS3 for PS2 titles, Little Big Planet, for example, is high on my list, but I don't want to have to own both generations of Sony consoles.

What's the suggestion here, guys? Should I hang on to the 80? Or take the hit, and trade it in towards a 60?

I genuinely enjoyed Mario Party 8. And 7. And 6. And so on. If you don't have people to play these games with, ie, if you are playing these games by yourself, then there isn't anything particularly fantastic about them, so online-play with voice chat would be a great addition. The big trick to enjoying these games is to play them with people who are just as into them as you are; if you play with someone who is bored, the game will totally blow.

How, you ask, do you get a group of friends to be just as "into it" as you are? Well that's easy- bong rips for mini-game victories! It works! Er, I assume.
