So I just put it on a USB key, restart the PC, go into BIOS and the USB key will appear in my boot options? Can I do the same thing with Memtest or a CD is required?

The power supply is an Ultra (i think) and it must be about 600 to 700W. It is 3 or 4 years old.

Hello zaku, I have checked the device manager and my mouse already has the option checked, and the option isn't there for my keyboard.

As for the bios, I checked in msinfo32 and my version is from 02.2011. I have downloaded the latest one but it's .Rom file and honestly I'm not sure how to install it. I'd rather not mess up anything.

As for the motherboard, it's the "Rev 3.0 - New P67 B3 Revision" as written on the box.

Thanks!

Hello zaku101, thank you for giving me such a complete answer.

I did the hardware tests this morning, here are the results:

Small FFTs: Tortured Test completed 12 tests in 17 minutes - 0 errors 0 warnings
Blend: Tortured Test completed 12 tests in 20 minutes - 0 errors 0 warnings

I stopped both tests after about 20-25 minutes and my computer never froze or locked up. It went real smooth, CPU temp was about 79-81 during tests.

So I guess my hardware is fine, this is good news. However I doubt my Windows installation is the problem, I have completely formatted about 2 or 3 times since I changed my hardware and the problem never changed. (I had to format when I bought my new hard drive, for instance).

My computer is scheduled to sleep after 2 hours, this is why I was calling it "unscheduled". Sometimes I'll plug in my Xbox on my PC screen, play for about 30 minutes and during this time, the computer goes into this unscheduled sleep that it cannot come back from. It is weird because when it goes in regular sleep after 2 hours, the lights around my PC power button are flashing, and then I press the power button and it comes back to life. When it's the unscheduled sleep, those lights aren't blinking and pressing the power button does nothing.

As for the device manager, I cannot find the option to set the mouse and keyboard to wake up the computer.

Any more insights?

Thank you!

Hello,

My computer sometimes (maybe once every 3 or 4 days) completely locks up and there's this loud buzzing noise coming through the speakers. The only thing to do is a hard reboot. This happens mostly when i'm on the internet, sometimes with iTunes running. It happened I think once of twice while I was playing a game. Every piece of hardware in my PC was bought this summer except my power supply, my graphics card and my hard drive. At first I thought my hard drive was the culprit, so I ordered a new one. The problem hasn't changed. I know it's not that problematic seeing as it doesn't happen alot. I don't think this is due to overheating, there's no dust in the case and temperatures at boot are fine.

From the research I've done in Google, some people suggest it's a memory problem, some suggest it's power supply related. Since my power supply is the oldest piece still in my computer (it was installed more than 3 years ago) it might be it.

Specs: Core i7 2600-k, 8Gb DDR3, GTX 260, ASUS P8P67-M, 750GB Sata3 HDD, and I don't even remember how much Watts my PSU has...

1) What could be the cause?

2) If it's RAM, how to test it?

3) If it's PSU, how to test it?

Thanks !

PS: Sometimes I get another problem, my computer will go on the some kind of unscheduled sleep but my mouse and keyboard are offline (lights on them are off) and there's no way to get it back to work. So I hard reboot. This also happens once in a while, maybe 2-3 days. My friend on Steam tells me my status is set to away during this "sleep", so my computer is not locked-up.

Hi folks, today I need your help.

I just had my motherboard changed on my computer because it was faulty after coming back from a long trip. My new motherboard is a Asus P5k/Epu so obviously now I need to reinstall Windows. I have Vista Premium 32 bit. When I boot with the Windows disk, it loads the files, then I get another loading screen (with the green bars in the center of the screen) and then it reaches a green and blue page with a movable cursor but it never goes beyond this.

(http://vistasupport.mvps.org/install_windows_vista.htm) it reaches the third image

Trying to boot from the hard drive only results in a blue screen (because i changed the motherboard, i guess)

Is there anything I can do? I dont think the CD is faulty because it worked fine a few months ago...

Thanks alot!!

ASUS P5K/Core 2 E6700/EVGA GTX 260/2 GB DDR2/SATA HDD 160 & 250 Gb

Hi, I have a 8800 gtx right now (it's broken sadly) and it fits really tight in my case (I'm talking about length...I got maybe 0.5 cm left until it hits the hard drives' rack (forgetting the name)), since it costs me about 100$ to ship for warranty repair, I figured I might as well buy a new card and fell upon this: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130370 which is essentially 251$ after mail-ins. The question is:

Is it a much bigger card? If I can fit a 8800 gtx, will a gtx 260 fit in? Would it bother the card if it touched the case's metal?

For 30$ more, should I pick up the gtx 260 216 cores?

I've tried Gpu-Z, the temperature does not change at all, during the crash it was about 63-64...but I got more artifacts than ever before

On another topic, is the 260 GTX a worthwhile update for 279.99?
