Finished this tonight. Took me 21 1/2 hours. Died 113 times. Weak ending story wise, but kind of fun gameplay. Gave it a 7.5.

Into chapter 13 now, mostly enjoying the game despite some instances of sheer frustration. I thought the save system was fine, and you can manually save each time you visit Nurse Tatiana where you upgrade. Finding the rooms with the mirrors helped a lot as far as saving progress. The story isn't the greatest, but it's somewhat interesting, especially when you learn about Ruvik's past. I will say Castellanos has to be the most out of shape detective I've come across in videogames, since he can't sprint for more than a few seconds even with upgrades without getting winded. The camera poses some problems in spots, but I didn't have an issue with the letterbox format. Playing on the PS3, only major technical issue I've encountered was the game locked up once and I had to restart the PS3. The other issue I have is that the game wants you to pull off action moves without the smoother controls of an action game. I do like the design of the levels and some of the creatures, though some things seem to be a retread of what we've seen before in the RE games. A 7 is a fair score, though if I like the ending could boost it up to an 8. Worth playing if you enjoy survival horror, though some may not find it all that scary. Not as intense as Alien Isolation, but I like the save system better for The Evil Within.

@b74kd3th @RabbiSchmuley The letterbox hasn't bothered me all that much, so I wouldn't let just that put you off playing the game. If you can rent it first and see for yourself how you'd like it.

Wow, did she get so much wrong here. You can't review a LEGO game as if it's a "regular" action/RPG. Of course puzzle solving and combat will be simplistic, as it's meant to be enjoyed by kids as well as adults. If you want to criticize the game, then focus on the technical issues Traveler's Tales should have gotten fixed by now, instead of focusing on the wrong things like combat and puzzle solving. You want a more realistic depiction of Tolkien's world, then wait for Shadow of Mordor instead. LEGO The Hobbit isn't a perfect game, but it is quite fun, if you allow yourself to have that fun

Enjoying this game so far. It may not be Arkham City, but it's a worthy addition to the series in my opinion. I'm glad WB Montreal didn't mess with Rocksteady's formula, and the free flow combat feels just as fun with this game as it did with the previous two. Haven't tried the MP yet, so I don't know how well that was implemented. But the single player is pretty good, with a well done story and pretty good voice acting. If you're a fan of the previous games, don't let a score put you off from trying this one.

@twinkletoes421 Probably depends on whether you're a big fan of the series or not. Don't just base your decision on one review- others have rated this higher. If you can, maybe rent both and see which one is more worthy of a purchase.

Personally, I loved this game (gave it a 9). I didn't find the story hard to follow at all, and it certainly wasn't incoherent at the end. At least, not to me. I enjoyed the way the economy was handled, since the more you upgraded the shops, the more items they had for sale. Felt exploration was nicely encouraged. Do agree that the cast of characters was very good and likeable. This was only the second game in the Tales series I've played, but it has sparked my interest in playing the others. Looking forward to the sequel coming to the states next year.
