I think both games are amongst the best of all times, but Shenmue 2 is my favorite game of all times. There was nothing that came close to giving the same package of emotions and giving that vibe of being a normal guy exploring lands very far from home and very different, all by himself, in the 80s, meeting people there, doing all kinds of things - it felt like you were there but there were things in this game you could do, that you'd love to do in reality but you wouldn't, because it's real life. Such as knock on random person's door in Japan, to find out there's an old grandma living there, or a cool chick, and you could just hear their story or ask about whatever. Kinda like travelling in Japan/Hong Kong/China in their prime and having the best adventures there. And I played that game probably 7 years after it came out, I wonder how awesome it must have been to play it soon after it was released - at that time the graphics and realism were probably mouth dropping. I also love the fact that there was no such thing as "quest" - it resembled real life. You could be asked to do something and just did it, or knew you had to do it. Like in real life - to me it's the only game that doesn't feel like it's limited by silly things that games are usually limited by - you don't expect it to behave like a game, more like life, which is unusual. You can also explore totally new things even after 10 playtroughs, each is different - there are totally different random things happening at different places at the same time, so you can't be in both in one playthrough. That's really amazing about this game - especially since now games are made in a cheap way that you don't miss any single cutscene on your playthrough, so you know there's nothing more to it after you played it. That's not Shenmue though, it's truly an amazing game and the only one in its kind.
