The issue is, they already did change the ending. There was a leaked script which was criticised for the ending, and BioWare reacted by changing the ending for the worse. Now, they just need to undo the damage. Of course, they are not in obligation to do so, however they will keep their fanbase happy, which is very important for future sales.
