Amongst all the gratuitous violence and murder in this game, a female reviewer focuses on the way women are portrayed......

Anyway, I think I still enjoyed San Andreas more, can't put my finger on why though. But this is still an amazing game - 9.5

Its odd how some of you can slate Kevin's opinions like they are not important and then bleat on like your opinions are the only one's that matter.

It's irrelevant if you disagree with him not, he's given his thoughts on the game and thats what he's paid to do. More so, he's been brave enough to be honest knowing the flack he would take for it.

Would we rather these reviewers lied? Give dishonest reviews based on what they think people want to hear?

Personally, I'd give it a 6.5 at best. Not because of the older games in the franchise, but because I just didn't enjoy it that much, there are much better games in this genre, and the thought of playing it again fills me with dread.

And for me that's the deal breaker. When I completed resi 1, 2, 3 and yes - even 4, I wanted to complete it again straight away. But 5 and 6 - well, lets just say it will be a while before I crank them on again.

@radec69 Its astounding how someone can talk for so long whilst totally missing the point. Firstly, I like all the series 1-6 so i'm not some fan-boy who hates the newer games... although I still think 6 is pretty poor with 4 being my personal fave from the newer titles.

The point you are missing is that Capcom have totally changed the genre. Not you, not Capcom, not anyone - can be surprised if certain fans of the series are upset that the genre of a title they love has totally changed into a fast paced action game. If they did the same to other games there would be an understandable uproar also.

What the hell, lets turn Grand Theft Auto into a car racing game and Call of Duty into a Sims kinda game... i'm sure nobody will mind.

Nobody is suggesting we should still be creeping around a mansion, but I think you are being naive if you think the only possible way to evolve a story is to change it from survival horror to an action game - that's just ridiculous.

Like I said, I love RE4 - completed it many times and it's always a game I can go back to and enjoy, so I don't mind the new games. But, I can also appreciate the anger of folk who think what Capcom have done is wrong. Especially as there are much better games than RE5 and 6 in the genre they have chosen.

They've gone from being a big fish in a small pond to a small fish in a huge pond.

Thats a fair question. The problem is that Capcom are making lots of money by using the name resident evil but not giving original fans of the series a game that is expected of that name.

If another popular title like COD turned on its head with puzzles and a serious lack of amunition, there would be an outcry, and rightly so because its not what people are wanting from the name COD, and its the same here.

We loved the first 3games because they were survival horror so if they are going to completely change the genre than its fair to say that it shouldn't be called resident evil.

Games like Alan Wake prove that top class survival horrors can still be achieved and resident evil should be the title leading the way in this genre.

Its still not a bad game, its just not resident evil.

One thing that struck me after finishing this game was that it would be a hell of a long time before I wanted to play it again. I had a similar feeling with re5. For all the action and great visuals, the other games in this series are far superior to me and i'm gonna buy a gamecube this year wth the sole intention of playing the remake of re1.

Its not a bad game by any stretch. I think many of us though yearn for the feeling resi 1 gave us. Some moments in the original genuinely scared the crap out of me, you were always on edge and even now, remembering the sound of Jill's footsteps as she's walking through the mansion gives me something no game since has managed to do. But its like having a new girlfriend, do you live in the past and compare her to a previous love, or do you appreciate what's new and different about her?
