Well of course Microsoft is not going to backport DX10 to XP, because then people would not buy Vista.

This is what hackers are for. There is already a small team that has had limited success with getting Vista-exclusive Shadowrun and Halo 2 working in XP; maybe we will see a more serious attempt in the next year.

Yeah, I think that's a good point, most of us that are happy with Vista are most likely running newer hardware.

About the laptops with Vista from Best Buy, etc. You do need to be careful. From my own experience of buying two from Best Buy

I've covered my feelings on the poor support for silver here many times over. Granted, that is only with experience with one of the two games out that use the service... so take it for what you will. Personally, the fact that only 2 games use the service at the moment is deffinatley another downside.

As for including a "use the silver service for free" as an option... you aren't exactly paying to support live! by using the free service, so I feel that both "no" and "i don't care" have that answer covered.
