@oromashu: And you're the reason game publishers think it's okay to nickel and dime us every chance they get. People like you who will $60 on a game with less and less actual content and more and more microtransactions.

Sweet. Electronic Arts has learned nothing.

I don't know why I am still holding hope for Anthem. EA will probably push for predatory monetization models in that game to. Cosmetics are fine. Boosters are questionable. But straight selling the best gear for actual money is scummy, especially if that gear is used to upgrade your character and layer that on top with a random chance where you're not even guaranteed anything good. A RNG based character progression system you can partake in with real money is a terrible idea and man if they don't keep that out of Anthem they will have another less than stellar "units shipped" figure and BioWare will die under EA like many developers before them.

@xcael: Show some proof EA's financial earnings are trending down. You can't because EA doesn't even release their books publically. Therein lies the problem. These big publishers next to never releases their fiscal year earnings and most times the public only seems them when publishers release them to investors. Publishers always show us UNITS SHIPPED but never UNITS SOLD. Most times we have to get that information from Walmart or Gamestop and build pieces to this puzzle. Sure, one could argue that Star Wars Battlefront II under performed. But we have no idea if it "lose EA money" because EA didn't release the actual cost for the games budget, how many units were sold, and therefore we can see how much they lose on making this game, or gained.

What I don't get is why some people believe this industry game that "games are too expensive now and we need loot boxes, microtransactions, day one DLCs, and pre order bonuses to make money." What kind of industry survives if it isn't profitable? None. The gaming industry only needs strong software sales, everything else is a bonus to them. I would say DLC is fine, as long as they implement them correctly and fairly.

@xhawk27: The problem wasn't the microtransactions. The problem was that Battlefront II had pay to win loot boxes on pre-release.

@7tizz: This is a false narrative pushed by large game publishers. For example, there is public data showing EA has continually spent less on average for game development while they increasingly spend more on advertisement. Does a video game really need a high class launch party? Does a video game need a public stunt like driving an actual tank down a street?

Sure, as technology advances the cost of game development does rise, but not at such an exponential rate as to warranted overpriced loot boxes and predatory micro transactions. I won't even argue that a game's budget can be in the millions, but budgets for game development have increased the most in the area of advertisement rather then development.

But honestly, good reviews from popular YouTubers is near free advertisement so...

@asnakeneverdies: No man, Metal Gear Rising is a great action game and the story was penned by Kojima himself. Kojima's team couldn't make the action game he wanted so Kojima asked Platinum games to do it. The story was ridiculous because the combat was ridiculous. But if we are being honest, Metal Gear has a insane story to begin with.

@MJ12-Conspiracy: Kojima fully endorsed Rising though. He asked Platinum games to make it because his team couldn't.

I have large hands and I still think the redesign of the original XBox controller was better. The people that actually want this controller has to be really small. Such a super niche market .

Really thought it was a good movie and very unique, too. Don't see why it was hated on. Sure, it's not the BEST movie he's done but it's pretty good.
