@Louis: I was honestly hoping that the 3rd film would pick up a few years down the line. that would allow a feeling of a fresh take on this series. you can kinda rehash a lot of the problems from the 2 movies and allow them to tell a more Capsulated story to finish out the trilogy.

The central theme of Star Wars is "Hope." Hope that no matter what you encounter, what ever comes up against you, that you will still over come it. that even if you have somehow lost your way and done some awful things, you can still come back from it. This movie craps all over that. This movie teaches you that hope is a false belief. That even when you try and learn from your mistakes and try to do better, you will still fail. And even when you try and do the right thing, when you ask for help, no one will come. Ultimately you are on your own.

@balrogbane: very concise and articulate review. it was a 7/10 for me too. I wanted to love the movie, but it did so many things that just bothered me. it tried so hard to usurp so much of the force awakens instead of telling its own compelling story. The whole Fin and Rose storyline was completely useless! over 30 min of plot that literally amounted to setting a sequel trilogy.

@jedediahpelland:

For me, it wasn't so much my about the expectations, TLJ seemed to completely disregard the first movie without offering anything compelling of its own.

this movie felt like an attack on all the positive aspects of the star wars mythos. it thinks its smarter than you, that it can completely defy all of your expectations without offering you any thing substantial in return. "Oh, Snoke is a galavanting know it all, lets kill all the mystery and focus away from the leader of the last republic and replace him with a immature, unproven, man child in Kylo Ren and say hey, you seem like a good choice to lead an empire. the problem I think is that it is a poor continuation from the previous movie. say what you want, this is a sequel to the force awakens. This movie felt like it was working against the hopes of the first movie, almost bitterly. Ask yourself, how much growth did each character have during the course of this movie? What realization did Kylo come to? did he learn how to lead the first order? why was he still with them at the end, after trying to run away with Rey? he should have left and Domhnall gleeson's character should led the assault against the rebels. Dominal Gleason character was regulated to a cartoon character. He was completely emasculated and posed no treat. Speaking of which, how much of a treat does the new order pose now? With smoke gone, who is left to provide any form of substantial leadership? What did Poe learn about becoming a leader? he fails at every choice he makes. Fin is basically pushed to the side and given something to do that is inconsequential. No one grows in this movie and nothing in this movie matters. the movie ends basically where it began. The rebels are still outnumbered and are on the run, with the new order in pursuit.

they should have let JJ do the entire trilogy and give Rian J his own movie to make. this movie felt like there were thing jj set up that RJ had absolutely no interest in. TLJ felt like a reboot of this universe. This was Failure as a sequel to the Force Awakens and its just frustrating that we were given alot great ideas in the TLJ at the expense of the positive aspects in the force awakens. Lucas was right about one thing, a trilogy is like a song, they should all ryme.

@tzimakoulini:

yes yes yes, everything you said exactly. I cant see how people are saying that this is the best movie in the series when it fails at telling cohesive story to begin with. the whole middle involves a sequence that was a literal waste of time. These characters deserved better

so how long is this game? Does it take place entirely in the army base? The review makes it look like it's an DLC or expansion pack
