The Waiting Game - Thief
Looking forward to becoming a professional Thief, but not sure you've got the skills to handle it? Don't worry, Johnny's ready to give you some handy recommendations.
Kind of a dull show this time.
AC is the worst example of stealth game. Don't you ever compare Thief to AC, in fact it shouldn't be said in the same sentence, and unfortunately I just did.
Mark of the Ninja, as tense stealth game is it gets, a nice option, definitely not in the Thief domain.
You should have mentioned "Amnesia The Dark Descend" - it obviously draws a lot of inspirations and atmosphere from Thief (And from Myst especially 3 and 4).
And well - its mostly a game of pure stealth, as you can't fight or kill anything ! :).
Also it's scary. And every Thief game had its scary levels, and as a rule their atmosphere can be quite creepy and intense.
And if you guys really want to while away the time, I suggest playing Thief 3 at least again.
Anyhow, can't wait for this one!! Been waiting for over 10 years.
Assassin's Creed 1?! I thought it was illegal in the game industry to make reference to any game more than 6 months old as a recommendation for someone to play. What rebels!! Bravo!
Why should i get ready for this "thief" game which is gonna be another casual turd that stays completely disrespectful to the series, just like Tomb Raider reboot did to Tomb Raider series.
How about getting prepared to this game by... hmm.. i dont know
how about playing PREVIOUS GAMES FROM THE SAME FRANCHISE!?!?
Play the Dark Mod. It just went standalone and is COMPLETELY free. I just can't stress this enough. But if you are a Thief fan you're probably already playing it and probably also making custom maps.
Good call with the Night Watch book, My favourite of the series too.
Although stealth plays a very small part in it I love the description of the patricians assassination.
This game looks really good - like a far far better dishonored. I wonder why people take hits on it?
Can't we put umbratheshadow into stasis or something?
@umbratheshadow You couldn't be more of an overt troll.
I love the Thief games on PC. This is the first third party game that makes me disappointed it's skipping the Wii U. My Pc is in need of an upgrade so I'll have to skip this one. Maybe pick it up a year or two later.
Has anyone here read any of the Discworld books? I wanna get into them but I don't know where to start. does anyone know which are the best books in the series?
game journalists usually don't acknowledge the fact that there are games that weren't released within the last year or so.
yes Thief 2, The best stealth game ever...I fondly remember the mission or you sneaking through town, picking up purses on the way, up to the tower and party which was your ultimate goal...same mission was in the Thief 2 demo...remember playing the demo and that's when I knew this is a franchise I am gonna love...
People are taking dumps on it because its getting the next gen tomb raider treatment.
By that I mean they take a franchise like Tomb Raider for example, hollow out all the things that made it good to begin with, then inject it with the crap that's trending now.
It's why with tomb raider, what you expected was : indiana jones with boobs. what you got : a 3rd person cover shooter with boobs.
The new thief, the bland as hell storyline; The whole oppressive leader thing has been kind of done to death. The total abandonment of some of the old thief lore; the hammerites and possibly the supernatural.
The new thief looks like a by the numbers amalgamation of bioshock infinite and dishonored making an uninspired nostalgia grabbing piece of turd that you can count has been done before.
P.S. I hate the enemies helmets in the video. Look LESS like dishonored. Oh wait you can't cos you're still on that UE engine.
@prodigest Everyone seems to say just start at the beginning.
@prodigest tbh there all great also check out the ones that have been made into movies :)
Stealthy? Have you even played the games that made the Splinter Cell series? Ie. Splinter Cell1-4. Conviction and Blacklist are Call of CoD with cover mechanics. Not stealth games.
hey, the new tomb raider was decent, after anniversary the best one I played and I played quite a few...so quit your bi*chin' and don't spoil stuff for the rest of us...so what that it's taking things which are now trendy? I am not some hipster doofus whose into doing uncool stuff all the freaking time...if you wanna play good old thief go for Thief 2x...sure I would be hell glad they create another one like Thief 2...but if that is not happen, let's settle for what they create and judge it not by it's predecessors, but by the impact it will have currently...
1- how do you know how it is, the story or gameplay? it seems to me that you're just unnecessarily blunt. Have you played it, Seen the story or anything like that?
Do you hate COD because it looks like BF (or vise-versa)?
2- Every game has to have concessions for proper graphics optimizations and making NPC guards in helmets is one of them. All games do it - from Batman arkham series to Assassins creed
3- And finally, comparing it to the new Tomb Raider is a huge compliment, cos that game was awesome. BTW, do you think Uncharted is Tombraider without boobs?
If you think otherwise, then kuddos
@electroban Knew this game was gonna suck ass as soon as I saw the drop-down assassination part in the gameplay, this looks way too action orientated to be a Thief game and the super powers look lame as hell, dumbed down hand holding disguised as a gameplay mechanic!
@gamefreak215jd hmm... should I?
The books weren't really released in chronological order, so you can almost jump in anywhere. They do however mostly follow a few key storylines (Rincewind, the witches, Death, the Watch, etc). My favourite is the City Watch, so I like to kick things off with Guards! Guards! and follow that plot They're also making a TV series around the officers of the Watch, which I have mixed feelings about.
Then again, it's coming up to Christmas, so you could give Hogfather a go. That was the first one I read and it's (sort of) festive.
I could say more, but I've probably nerded out enough for one comment...
Splinter Cell was indeed a stealth game. It was a stealthy, stealthy stealth game. Go back and play it. Seriously, I'll wait.
There, you see? Now wasn't that stealthy? You may very well be right about the sequels, as I lost interest in the splinter cell series almost as quickly as I have this comment. The first game, though (which, unless I'm greatly mistaken was the game in question)? STEALTHY.
