@ember_to_flame: I place this game right above Dead Space. Both were excellent, but Isolation never gave you the ability to slaughter everything. As a horror game, I never want to feel emboldened in knowing that I can wipe the floor with anything.

@jlt35050: No it doesn't. I love Dead Space, but it devolved into a power fantasy. Horror isn't about empowerment, being capable of decimating your foes and becoming the hunter. No, it's about vulnerability, feeling exposed, and being hunted by something implacable and unrelenting.

@HarlemVIP: Wrong. Arcade AVP was not the best Aliens game. You gotta be joking.

As a horror fan well over 3 decades old, I have to agree that horror died years ago. But is that because good horror movies now are inferior to good horror from the past? No. It's because as veteran horror fans like me, and presumably yourself, have seen it all and are no longer affected as we once were by the creepy and terrifying things. Cheap jump scares have long ago lost their ability to get a rise out of me because I can tell when they're coming. Alien Isolation was very tense the first time through, but in every subsequent playthrough, one has to admire the atmosphere that was captured in the game and how authentic it is to the franchise. A no finer Alien game has been created than Alien: Isolation.

@ixidjfrizzixi: And this looks like Diablo with a Borderlands skin. So yeah, another permutation of Borderlands meets Diablo...

@Fia1: I definitely enjoy an immersive experience. Isolation may not be your cup of tea, but for me, it was just right. The shooting portion wasn't as tight as a good FPS, but it isn't supposed to be. You're never meant to feel powerful in this game. I think they succeeded in making the player feel vulnerable at all times. I especially like how they handle saves. I hope CA get the chance to make a sequel and improve on their formula. Maybe start to bring in ideas from Aliens, and official VR support.

@Fia1: I played it many times through. Completed all the DLC too. Couldn't get enough of it. First time through, I felt like there was filler content, but on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th playthroughs, it all breezed by. I love the game. I want more. It feels like a walking sim if you play on easy. Play on hard, and the stealth is much more difficult. Not every game strives to be a traditional FPS. This game captured the look and feel of the first Alien movie to a tee. My favorite game of 2014.

Btw, EVERY game is repetitive. EVERY game.

"..the game itself is not much of a looker"...Are you kidding? This game is gorgeous and very atmospheric. Gamespot is dumb. Did you review the 360 version, wtf.

@mvilleguy88: That works for me too. Hopefully the next dlc is more meaty.

@Bread_or_Decide: That's one way to do it I guess. I like to be as thorough as I can in finding everything before using guides. That's usually my 2nd or 3rd playthrough.
