You want to talk demoralizing online experiences, Smash Ultimate matchmaking is that. That aside, it's true that you can't wave a wand and implement good rollback, but I think every single Smash Bros player would rather have reliable online multiplayer than what we have now.
That HDR issue was the first thing I encountered when starting the game. I briefly considered whether it was an odd stylistic choice until it became clear that I really couldn't tell what was being shown on-screen at all.
Exp Share didn't start as "an actual item that you could give to an individual Pokemon", since the feature of giving items to Pokémon for them to hold was introduced only in the second generation games.
The Exp Share feature actually started as soon as the 1st generation. It was indeed an actual item, which, as long as players had it in their inventory, would redistribute Exp to all 6 Pokémon in the team. In a way, it was closer to how the system looks like today. Except that, back then, the amount of Exp shared was incredibly low, rendering the object close to useless.
Well, I had to look this one up because I simply didn't remember it. The Exp.All was indeed a passive inventory item. It did give 50% EXP (and stat EXP) to every non-participating party member but like most things in gen 1, it was glitched somehow to decrease the effect depending on participating and fainted members.
