@Sun-Tzu-GE Yea two of my good buddies are gamers, but they hate stories, cutscenes, emotions, and anything that isn't fast paced... it makes me sad :(

@gamingnerd121 It's true but it's not really a problem with gaming because we also now have more independent developers than ever before since the advancement of technology is allowing smaller groups of people to accomplish much more. The larger publishers are losing their way naturally, but that's just a problem with greed and capitalism. There will always be independent, passionate and talented teams out there creating games for fun first, rather than mass appeal, and as technology advances things should only get easier for the smaller groups.

I feel like The Last of Us strikes that nice balance between fairly in-depth, and fun, engaging gameplay, but also has a great story that allows you to bond with the characters, and moments in the actual gameplay that aren't violent or fast paced. Also it has a bit of exploration, and freedom of movement during most every scene.

David Cages games have the characters and story and some interesting interactions, but I feel like if they had some more traditional mechanics like The Last of Us, he'd really get those other types of gamers interested in this. But as a highly structured narrative with little freedom I don't think many "gamers" will be interested in trying it, no matter what else it offers.
