@Seymour47: yup. they wanted to sell more Standard cards and pushed their power too much. also, wallet fatigue is a real thing with MTG, and they are really testing the 'Whales' with pricier items at a faster rate

@subsided94: hard to say. this is the first Secret Lair drop with unique cards... all of the other drops were reprints with new art. also, the other Secret Lair drops were on sale only for 24 hours... this one is on sale for a whole week. and i'm sure they will print a lot more of these than the others ones... which may be balanced by the fact that it's a cross promotion with a waning show. too many variables to predict with any certainty

@al89lan: yup. i would say that all of this can be tracked to the closing of Toys 'R Us, which was a major seller of Hasbro toys. I believe that Hasbro pushed WotC to make more money in order to make up the difference in lost revenue from toy stores closing. I believe that if WotC wasn't owned by any other company, they would approach things a little more carefully

@al89lan: MTG is selling more than ever... so not sure how you can claim it's heading down the toilet. however, i do agree that they are releasing too many gimmicks. also, you can't really complain about the price of a Masters set when in reality they bring down the single card prices for popular modern (and EDH) cards... which is good for the player.

@lionheartssj1: "the guys winning standard tourneys were doing it with $400 decks"

and Standard is the cheapest... so don't even bother looking at Modern or Vintage decks, which range from $1,000 to $10,000+
