The problem I see with emo kids is that most of them have NEVER been through anything traumatic other than "people don't understand me" or "life sucks I hate school blah blah". Life starts to suck when people you love either die or disappear from your life forever. And if stuff like that HAS happened to you, being all emo about it and getting into the lifestyle and fashions won't make it better.

I got several... finding out that my old best friend's parent's got divorced, he went to rehab and his girlfriend is a meth addict now. That was kinda like "whoa, what happened?". When my cat died when I was 13, i loved that stupid cat. To be honest I haven't had anything traumatic happen to me but I deal with pretty depressing situations, if that makes any sense.

I used to hate school but now I appreciate it, even though it means I work my butt off sometimes. Anything worth getting in life requires effort, and that includes good grades and a good career. Sure, some stuff in high school is useless but it's better to just suck it up, deal with it and get grades that'll keep you from working Mcdonalds for the rest of your life. Seriously. Sometimes you have to come face to face with yourself and grow some balls.

A few misconceptions that some Atheists make:

1.) Christians are stupid

2.) You shouldn't have to read the Bible in order to argue the existence of God

3.) Christians are a bunch of right-wing ultra conservative nut-jobs.

No, no and no. First of all, there are and have been many intelligent Christian people throughout history. C.S. Lewis anyone? Second, saying you shouldn't have to read the Bible to argue the idea of God is like saying you don't have to read Shakespeare's work to write a thesis on the influence of Shakespeare's literature. It makes you sound ignorant. Third, no not all Bible-believing Christians are over-judgemental people that blow up abortion clinics and shove the Bible down people's throats.

So, just open your minds for a second and ponder this question: Before Paul of Tarsus was a Christian he was one of the highest ranking priests in the Jewish religion. He brutally murdered Christians because he did not understand what they believed and he didn't like it. Amazingly, through a supernatural experience his life was completely changed and he became a fierce defender of Christianity and helped propel it into what it is today. Here is a historical figure who literally did a complete 180 and ended up being persecuted as a Christian himself. If there is no God than how did this REAL historical figure go from being a murderer of Christians to becoming one? What motivated him to do so? I don't think Paul had some kind of schizophrenic breakdown or any other physical change. It was a change of heart that could only be instigated by an outside force.

Cherry picking and misinformation FTW!

1.) Christians are stupid

--It sure seems that way when they believe the earth is only seven thousand years old when eveyr form of science from physics, geology, paleotology, etc says other wise. Infact some fools think dinosaurs WALKED with man and tried to justifiy it through the verse of the Bible.

And yet it's reasonable that we evolved from tiny specks of slime that sat on rocks for millions of years before we somehow became monkeys and then became humans? Please.

2.) You shouldn't have to read the Bible in order to argue the existence of God

---- Pure BS this is like me saying you do not understand god because my book the Quran is correct.. This is making the assumption that the Bible is 100% correct and IT ISN'T.. There ar enumerous foresights, I guess you think Noahs Arc was posisble, or at one time the earth really was flat sense the Bible said so? Or what about int he early transitions that said the Earth was the center of the universe.

For one thing, the Bible never said the earth was flat or at the center of the universe. So you just lost your own argument.

3.) Christians are a bunch of right-wing ultra conservative nut-jobs.

No they arn't, but the arrogant fools like you ARE. People who some how think their beliefs are above every one elses, yet will argue and betray Jesus's teachings just to prove that their faith is some how correct.. And no Christians arn't right wing Ultra conservative Nut jobs, BUT THEY HAVE hi-jacked the right wing.. In the end they are the source for quite a few of our bigotry and sexism in the US, numerous upon numerous evangelicals have been recorded saying many unbelievable statements.

How am I an arrogant fool? Now you're just attacking me instead of the issue. There was nothing arrogant about what I posted, and as far as I'm concerned you don't know me personally so how can you ignorantly label me like that? There are also many Atheists who have said many hateful, unbelievable statements, and if anything the decrease in Christian values is correlated to the soaring rates in divorce, suicide and drug use in the past 40 years.

Yes it did buddy the bible does mention that the worlds flat.. And I never said evolution was correct, but it certainly is a far better more logical idea then Adam being creating and Eve coming from a RIB..

And your arrogant because your making the assumption that the Bible is the only religious text to read to learn about god.. I find that pretty presumptious and arrogant, that being said I do not think the Bible is right or wrong.. In the end though IT CAN NOT BE USED FOR RESEARCH MATERIAL and has no crediability.. That alone should say something...

So if the Bible isn't right or wrong than what is it? Where do you stand? It's either dead wrong or it's right. Yes the Bible can be used for research, archeologists have found ancient cities based on locations described in the Bible. It is a reliable document. What about Paul's travels and ministry? That's recorded in the Bible, and it's fact. I find it amazing that people discredit the Bible yet believe trust in documents about Plato and Alexander The Great that were written thousands of years after their existance. The New Testament was written very shortly after Jesus' death.

You dont know what the bible is, it could be right or wrong.  Nobody knows and nobody knows the correct interpretation of certain things.  There is no real answer here, anyone who thinks that there is.. is just ignorant and or brainwashed.

I'm not sure what you're getting at here. So the professor who stands up in front of his students at the University and says "The Bible is false" must be ignorant and brainwashed according to this logic. I really don't want to come across as snobby or close-minded, two things I hate about the American church. But I get the impression that you really don't know where you stand.

The Bible is deemed not reliable what so ever.. What do you say about that?  Theres a problem when a supposed "non-fiction" book has numerous arguments on whether a story in there was metaphor, exgereation or actuallity.. Don't you think?

Well, I believe the Old Testament stories to be 100% true, because I believe in Salvation (what happened to Paul on the road to Damascus), which is to believe in the Supernatural, which is to believe that Noah's Ark and Adam and Eve could of actually happened. Maybe not in the story-book fashion we've been socialized to believe in (thinking of these stories conjurs images of sunday-school coloring books with cute little animals and people dressed in leaves), but yes I think that these stories were most definitely possible. That's the best answer I can give you.

[QUOTE="cheatymcshifty"]I wont get into all the ignorance and bs slung around this thread.. but I will ask what i always do when this question comes up... How many religious texts not pertaining to christianity have you read? The torah? the Koran? I'll bet a higher percentage of atheists have read the bible than christans have any other religions religious texts... tequilasunriser
Great point.

I'd rather talk with an Atheist who's actually read the Bible than someone who's too stubborn and close-minded to read it. I've actually read parts of the Quran online, pretty interesting but I don't believe it to be as divinely inspired as the Bible.

I'm sorry but no one thinks that.
1.) No, they're not, their minds has been poisoned, that's not their own fault.
2.) No, obviously, that doesn't even make sense. But to use the bible in an arguement about the existence of some god is equally stupid.
3.) We know that not all christians are extremists. :?

Well then you haven't been around enough people. There are TONS of people who think Christians are idiot ultra-conservatives. To say that there is NO ONE that thinks this is an overgeneralization.
