Streamers have to stop over-inflating their self worth online then using that false worth as leverage for something literally 99% of the world doesn't care about. It's nothing but a jaded perception that occurred by using your platform as an echo chamber, and surrounding yourself by like-minded individuals. It's time to step outside and reevaluate your actual position in society, your streamer life is a false perception of reality.

I'm very confident if you asked 10 people on the street what a "hate raid" is 10/10 would say they dont know, and if you explained it to them 10/10 would say they don't care. This isn't news, this is immature people dealing with other immature people in the most immature way they could come up with, nothing more.

I understand how abusing a system could be bad, but from a business perspective this dev needs to adapt. Stop charging almost 10 bucks for such a short experience. Instead offer these short vignettes as a collection that might take longer to completely finish for a price or use these small games as a way to build good word of mouth for free, then charge money for larger products now that you established a fanbase.

The problem isn't the refund system, that needs to be there to protect consumers. You are basically charging money for a Newgrounds game, that's the real problem. The market is dictating the value of your product, and simply put, you are not offering enough to justify a price.

Its a pretty crappy looking move on paper, but really its still one of the more generous charities. The US has a real problem with regulating charities. For context:

“Charities that are A-rated generally spend at least 75 percent or more on their programs, so more of your money goes to causes you want to support,” says Stephanie Kalivas, analyst at CharityWatch.

It's a common misnomer that the majority of your money actually makes it to the people you want to help. In fact most of it just goes into keeping the operation running. (and the people at the top are not making minimum wage...)

I highly recommend anybody willing to donate to a cause to not give to a charity. It's horribly inefficient and your time and money are better spent helping directly through volunteer or direct donations. Always make sure you know how much of your money goes to what it should. Charities while not technically profitable, are more profitable than we care to think. That's why we have over 1.5 million different charities (which is a rate of 1 to every 300 people).

I know it's easier to think, "well it's money I was spending anyway, why not see it get to some people in need." but really you are better off throwing loose change at homeless people because they are actually gaining more from you, and directly than what you are giving to most places.

I don't think there was a right answer here to be honest. No matter how well they implemented the big 3rd act twist it was going to lose it's same punch for the exact same reason this article existed in the first place, and your lack of concern about spoilers is very apparent. (which the editor had to patch in a real quick spoiler warning to save face.)

I think most people are well aware of the twist. Lets be honest, this article was written because of people's knowledge about the forth wall break, and their curiosity about how it was handled on the console. Your lack of concern for spoilers is because it's so well established at this point. You didn't really need to go over the entire plot just to talk about a specific forth wall break involving data manipulation on your desktop (see I just did it here without spoiling anything.)

Instead, I would argue that these types of twists are the biggest contributors to why they just cannot work more than once in any way shape or form. It reminds me of the Blair Witch, or Paranormal Activity's early success. Just like this game, the success was from a smart and early marketing push that valued word of mouth. Once the cat was out of the bag there wasn't going to be the same impact with any sequel or revisit because the it entered into pop culture mainstream. It's just the risk, no the price you pay for this style of writing/art. You will always see early returns, but its just not sustainable in the long term.

If anything DDLC's biggest mistake was to wait so long to try to capitalize on consoles. You just can't let the cat out of the bag and then wait 4 years to try to catch it again. This might have been fine if it released concurrently with the original PC release, but pop culture had a VERY long time to make sure this secret was no longer a secret, and therefor no longer as impactful.

@justthetip:

That's just not true. You have completely lost the context here. You are talking about a product that was discontinued over 20 years ago. They were not losing money on this, and if anything they are losing more money through a bad reputation than the money they would gain from keeping fan recreations suppressed.

This is clearly a case of a person arguing principles over common sense. I don't disagree with the principle of what you are saying in ideal conditions but I also acknowledge just how important it is to keep things in context because it can seriously alter your message.

Good job MGM, I'm sure you'll lose way more money with a scumbag move like this than the amount of money you would potentially lose for N64 game that hasn't been in production for over 20 years.

Somebody has to talk to the cost-beneficial morons that make these decisions. You'd be better off giving away free copies of the game at this point than this...

Im glad everybody here immediately drew the same conclusion. This is not Watchmen Whedon, and your idea was pretty transparent.

If you have money to buy PS5s in bulk to resell them at a higher price you have money to put food on the table for the Covid pandemic. That is blatant manipulation.

There is nothing more sincere than an apology from a dead guy by their descendants trying to make more money off of the legacy left behind...I cant wait until the future generation has to apologize for all the idiot stuff youtube "influencers" are doing now just so they can profit off of that popularity.

Hopefully, if we learn nothing else but one thing I hope people learn that you cannot judge historical figures by modern standards. There is no sense, its just your ignorance being showcased not theirs. They didnt know any better because at the time there was no better it just was.

Its like calling out Issac Newton for not knowing things high schoolers know now...history still has value in a STEM centric world. Dont neglect it or you end up doing stupid things like this.
