Interesting points. Maybe the setting does lack it's own character but I think it's far too early to say. A rating of 8 seems harsh when it's being compared to a nostalgic view of older games, that were played at a more impressionable age, and it has so much more going for it than has been mentioned.

It's weird to think that GTAV will be some people's first time playing a GTA game. I wonder what they think?

Nice piece Gamespot, but the reapers do have mystery. I'd imagine it will unravel in the next game though and my only worry is that it will make them come across weaker than in the first two games. You don't want to work your way through a story and sympathise with the bad guy. I would also add intimidation to the list. The first time you see General Raam you think, "Fenix is hard, but how can he beat him?!" He also has at least 3 of the 4 areas mentioned so again, nice piece. Definitely worth a read.

Fable was great, LOVED IT. Adventuring around, not knowing exactly what Lionhead had in store for you because they were big on new, innovative ideas. It felt like a story of discovery. Fable 2 was also great. Aside from how the story fizzled out, the game was still enchanting with plenty of character. Fable 3... I'm enjoying it, but there is an underlying feeling that it has been rushed (to the point it feels like Fable 2.4). Some of the decisions you have to make really make you think, but the game lacks depth. In making it "accessible to everyone" they have sacrificed the adventure and sense of discovery, AND it does seem a bit patronising to think that new players have to learn everything like a 4 year old with pictures. I do still love it, and all past Lionhead games but I just don't feel like I can get lost in Fable 3 the same way as I did with 1 & 2.
