In my opinion, most open world games that allow full map access straight away generally suck (Saints row 2, Just cause 2, Prototype) and the access to the entire map is given almost as a substitute to a good story or well laid out progression path.TroubleMaker411

i disagree. i thought Saints Row 2 was a Great sandbox game that allowed you to do MANY things right from the start, i loved it. and Just Cause 2 is Phenomenal...it may not have the greatest REPLAY value SP wise...but it is a great game. Spiderman 2-Web Of Shadows = Awesome. Prototype was Horrible, that game doesnt even Count...

if games had what you wanted, they would have the entire world open to travel from the start
right out of the box. maybe you don't know games, but that's how it should be from now on, sandbox or not. although it's an open world, you shouldnt be required to play the storyline just to access the entire map. if you could access everything right out of the box, the "shock" and "awe" moments in video games would become instant...which onlyincreases the value of the game while leaving asweet aspietaste in their mouth.Nexustras

my God man, its like you read my mind...

I don't have a problem playing a structured game if that's what I intended to buy. But if I buy a sandbox game, I want the freedom to do what I want anywhere in the box.El_Zo1212o
Exactly. ill take Red Dead Redemption for example. a WIDEEEE area of this game was accessable from the Start....and i enjoyed it for what it was...but part of me was put off by not being able to go across the train tracks into the other area of the world. it felt like i had only paid for half a game. ofcourse ONLINE, you could pretty much go into that area and do whatever you wanted....which made the game the ULTIMATE free roam...but i would like that freedom in the single player mode as well... i am not AGAINST the story of a game, especially if its a Good Story....i just want to be able to go Everywhere and explore. there are Many games that i purchase simply to Explore The World....some games, i dont even play 5 missions deep into...because i honestly couldnt care any Less about the story...especially since i can watch someone playthrough the game on Youtube....

Oh man do I ever HATE that! (Just Cause 2 resolved this issue wonderfully by NOT DOING IT. 400sqkm of glorious FREE roaming.)El_Zo1212o
GLORY HALLELUJAH....
Biggest issue I have with sandbox games is texture pop-ins. Nothing worse than seeing foreground elements like trees and even buildings popping out from nowhere. Sacrifice you pay to have an open world.sgotskillz
ehh...small price to pay for an awesome free roam game....
Why should I ever see a "You lose" or "Game over" screen in a game!? I payed to have fun and win! I didn't pay to lose! I don't buy online games to lose matches! I bought that game to win every single game ever!DamianAlexander
looks like you missed my point Completely and in Whole...

[QUOTE="DamianAlexander"]as soon as you start to get bored with them they unlock something new for you to explore. It keeps the pace going, keeps the game feeling fresh./QUOTE] blocking off the map kills the freshness. Saints Row and Saints Row 2 are some of my favorite Sandbox games because they give you the Whole City to explore from the start...and if you CHOOSE to play through the storyline, you can do that and enjoy it at your own pace...now, THATS refreshing. blocking off sections of the map just discourages me and turns me off to the entire game...especially when its OTHER WORLDY DIFFICULT...

In many sandbox games, the issue that you're referring to is probably used to ease you into the general flow of the game.hillelslovak
ease me into the flow by allowing me to see the World of the game...dont purposely Block Me Off from the map. thats not easing me into the flow, thats restricting me from something that should rightfully be Mine to access. when i pay $$$ to buy these games, i want THE WHOLE GAME. i dont want it in Sections, i want all of it. if i dont want to play through the storyline to see the map, that should be my Choice....i shouldnt be forced to do it...

...is that you cant access Everything from the start of the game. now its not All sandbox games...but a decent number of them.

i think it all started waaayyy back with GTA3....you were given an island of the map...and when you went to cross the Bridge...it was ever so conveniently "Under Construction"...and it pissed me off :l because all i wanted to do was explore the other parts of the map...but NOOOOO...YOU CANT DO THAT. first, youv got to complete a series of boring and repetitive missions and THEN that bridge wont be under construction anymore :)

and this was also relevant in GTA4....where you couldnt even go across to Manhattan without having One Billion Cops and the Air Force swarm down on your position and cutt you to pieces with bullets. i go to Manhattan all the time...no one shoots at me :l only if i go to Harlem....

i mean its Sickening to me. im playing Need For Speed Carbon right now and i want to get to the 4th map, which is loosely based around Las Vegas....but in order for me to even get there, i have to do about 30 RACES and then do about 5 WAAYYY TOO TEDIUS AND BORING BOSS RACES just to get there....and its not that i cant Go There...its that theres an INVISIBLE WALL BLOCKING ME from driving there. im really considering selling the game because im really not going to sitt here and lose Over and Over againtrying to beat these Impossible Boss Matches just so i can get to something that should be Available to me from the JUMP.....

is there Anyone Else who absolutely HATES this????
