I personally wouldn't get a tattoo like that. Pick some symbol that's important to you, something that you won't regret having on your skin for the rest of your life. Note: I'm not saying don't get one by any means, put I would put some thought into what symbols are actually important to you in some way.
You will not be able to carry a regular friendship either way. Your best bet is to just suck it up and ask her out. Call her up, say something simple like "Hey, I've been wanting to say this for a long time, but haven't had the courage. Would you go on a date with me?" Don't let your mind get so caught up in it. It may seem impossible, but your mind will just end up going in circles. It's as easy as it sounds. Just Let your mind go elsewhere, and ask her out.
