[QUOTE="AmyMizuno"]I believe it's only $5.85, and it's hardly hept up with inflation over the years.Oleg_Huzwog

Kept up with inflation? Er... aren't wages a principle driver of inflation? Prices can't be raised too high if the consumer's spending power remains the same.

the veracity of that statement aside, everyone's wages =/= the minimum wage. i'd guess a pretty small percentage of the workforce makes the minimum wage, and many of those who do are teenagers who live at home and have no bills and can spend nearly all their money.

yeah i would say that it is a scam because why would they be paying you $400 when you can buy i new one from gamespot for $150dangerd0g24
beat me to it. of course this is a scam. ignore that message and do not contact the person. and paypal isn't so secure. a few years ago, and i have no idea how, someone hacked into my account there and took $900 out of my checking account. thankfully i noticed it that day and paypal was able to freeze the money and put it back in my account.

weren't the sex pistols the manufactured boy band of their day?vitriolboy
yes. malcolm mclaren visited nyc and saw bands like television and the ramones and went back and put together some contrived pop group called the sex pistols. having said that, they have their place and really werent terrible or anything. its just funny that when your average person thinks of punk, they think of the sex pistols. well, they did a while back. now they think of avenged sevenasilaydying 182 or whatever garbage is on mtv these days.

not component cables, audio cables such as you would find on a set of composite cables. the red and white thingies. i have an hdtv i got in early 04 when they were making DVI for two weeks and i have an HDMI-DVI adapter and use audio cables.

are people really convinced HD-DVD would have won if ms released the 360 with an HD-DVD drive? i don't see why that is a foregone conclusion. what are people basing that on? if the 360 had launched later than it did and cost $200 more than it did, it likely wouldn't have sold very well at all. look at how well the ps2 sold and look at the crappy start the ps3 has had due to price. the XBOX didn' t have nearly the fanbase the ps2 had and had little momentum coming into this generation.

the OP is dead wrong in many, many ways, but i will just point out the flaw in his DVD-monopoly analogy. DVD is a technology, not a company. the reason DVD players (and discs) are inexpensive is 1. huge installation base and 2. lots of different companies making DVD players (and studios making movies) in competition with one another. without both of those, you quite simply would NEVER have had $20 DVD players. that very flawed analogy shows how off the OP is in his entire post. without competition, prices would be higher (no, i do not think a machine would be $800, bc he is right on that--nobody would buy it, but prices would definitely be higher), but more importantly, there would be less incentive for developers to try to out-do each other making great games, especially on the 1st party level.
