@cjburnfist I had similar concerns. I played in the beta since November (same week Skyrim released incidentally). I played Diablo 1, 2, and now 3. Amazingly, the system works. You can choose to stack primary stats, or you can branch it out. It's all about the gear, which is what it was about in the first place. It's more streamlined in its implementation and allows you to develop your character based on either skills or gear or a combination of both. Don't hate till you've played. It feels old school the more you play. Gotta give it a chance.

@ziproy I didn't like it, but it's still a viable system. It's one of the things I'm looking to see how it stands in the later game. Playing it in the beta, it works. I've got mixed feelings about a lot of it, but it's still a hell of a game and it's going to get bought and played a lot.

"A lot of Diablo II came down to these one-shot bad situations coupled with one-skill-centric spamming combat model. It's amazing the game had the longevity it did with such a simple combat model. Most players resented that, and that was what we wanted to avoid with Diablo III."

I've never met a person who played Diablo II and resented its simple combat model and not one of my classes ever only used just one skill.

I have actually held on to several 'terrible' games because they had such potential. Occasionally I'll dust them off and have a go.

Both LotRO and DDO are great games. Sometimes a little too nuanced if you are going the F2P route, but for what they are, they are actually pretty great. you can generally earn the unlockable content, but the rate at which you do so generally makes it worthwhile to just pay for it.

I'm with Giancarlo, I'm thinking a Washington DC locale. They can throw in all kinds of different monuments and stuff like Mt Rushmore. The nation's capitol, the center of politics. I'd definitely say it's got a seedy, sleazy underbelly ripe with intrigue that they can play on.

As a parent of young gamers, my youngest and most avid being one of my 3 year old sons, I don't even let my kids watch me play certain games, let alone play it themselves. Hell yeah, I'm gonna let them (him) play Duke Nukem Forever. When he's old enough. He's also gonna know the history and why it's such a big deal.
