Let's start by achieving a consistent 1080p / 60 FPS across all games before debating about a consistent 4K / 60 FPS

The KOTOR plot twist when you find out your protagonist is actually the Sith lord Revan: the one that nearly destroyed the Republic. It's probably the 2nd best plot twist in Star Wars after "I am your father!"

So I decided to go with the Samsung 860 EVO 500 GB SATA III finally, I ordered one for 100$. I can save the NVMe slot for a future upgrade once my old SSD dies, and I get a better bang for buck with SATA III, whose speed is still plenty fast for me.

Thanks for all the comments and recommendations!

Is your current SSD to slow for you usage?

I would say no, my current SSD is plenty fast for my needs, I really just needed more SSD space.

However, I have a friend who is very into PC tech, and he described NVMe as being a massive jump in performance, and it was worth the extra price difference. That's why I did some research online and I'm asking here to make sure I'm not crazy in finding that unless you're dealing with massive files, it won't make a difference in my day-to-day work.

So, with Black Friday upon us, I've been looking to get a new SSD to complement my Samsung 840 EVO 256 GB, which is almost full. I've been out of the loop when it comes to SSD developments, and I'm basically trying to decide between a Samsung 860 EVO SATA III 500 GB at 100$ or a Samsung 970 EVO NVMe at 170$ (All prices in CAD)

My motherboard, a Z97 Gigabyte Z97X-UD5H-BK does have an M.2 slot, but since it was among the first motherboard to support the feature, I am worried there might be compatibility issues, based on some research I've done.

Additionally, are the speed increases for normal day-to-day usage worth the extra 70$ ? My PC's main use is homework (MS Office, Excel, Internet) with some gaming thrown in. Based on what I read online, the main benefit of NVMe is only for large programs or file transfers, so I am leaning towards saving the 70$.

What do you guys think? I am leaning towards the 860 EVO at the moment, but I'd like to hear from users of NVMe SSDs to let me know if the improvement justifies the extra price.

I'm a writer by no means, but one thing I noticed is that sometimes any sort of acronyms you come up with have a way of sticking and sounding good, even if they seem terrible at first.

For example, in the Dragon Age series, the developers couldn't decide on a name for the setting of the game like Middle Earth or Narnia, so they just decided to use the place holder THEDAS (THE Dragon Age Setting) in the meantime. Everyone hated it at the beginning, but when the time came to rediscuss it a few months later, the team could no longer imagine NOT calling the setting Thedas, as we know it today.

Perhaps an idea would be to give whatever characters you are writing an acronym which briefly describes them, and see if comes up with a name that could eventually stick.

Canadian born here, so that's who I would be representing.

However, I can actually still participate in the Olympics representing Greece if I so chose. My grand-parents were born in Greece and immigrated here in the 1960s, and according to Greek laws, I'm still technically able to join the national team. Would be a good option if I chose to play soccer (football) for them, though calling Greece's national team a powerhouse would be a stretch, it's still better than Canada's men's team, which sits at the very bottom of world standings.

Hoping to get an aerospace engineering internship for the fall semester. I'm part of a co-op program at my university that involves alternating work-study terms so we get real-life work experience. I just did a couple of interviews at Lockheed Martin and Bombardier, so fingers crossed!

I'm happy where I am at socially. I have a good group of close friends that I hang out with, but I still manage to meet new people at school or through other events. Next step would be to find myself a girlfriend. Haven't had one yet, but I haven't given up hope. Just need to put myself out there more and be more talkative.

In order of preference (with favorite team in brackets):

1) NHL (Montreal Canadiens)

2) NBA tied with European Football

3) American Football

....

Way below is Baseball. Always found it to be too quiet and boring for my taste.

@killered3: Pretty solid choices! A bit before my generation, but I can appreciate good rock music when I hear it :)

Overall, I am seeing lots of rock bands being posted. Pretty awesome actually! Never knew about all these different bands.

Besides the greek singer I mentioned in my initial post, I also recently started getting into a rock group called Starset. It's some nice soft rock, pretty easy to listen too. On their most recent album, they transition between each song with some "transmissions" that include science theory explanations, like how the doppler effect works. Pretty cool! Here's a clip of one of their bigger songs:
