My point is...

$258.95 is the price for Vista Home Bussines, the cheapest as far as I know (but expensive). A lot of people wants to play Alan Wake that's is coming soon and only for Vista, also others games are coming "improved" for Vista (DX10), "you can play it in XP also but is not that cool like in Vista", someone can say...

I know that probably a lot of people have already bought Vista just to play Halo 2, then as I said is coming Alan Wake...

I'm happy with XP (not like Ubuntu) I've played a lot of games with that OS...but games is one of the reasons Microsoft is like forcing us to buy Vista.

Vista Home costs as much as XP Home (about 100$ for an OEM license). There is no such thing as Vista Home Bussines.

Vista has a bad name because people who have no idea what there are talking about and who never even used the OS are commenting on it.

Sorry, my mistake, I probably wanted to say Vista Home Basic.

And no, I use it in my notebook (came with it, of course), not allowed for games...

Vista has a bad name because is CRAP and a copy of Mac OSX.

The fundamental reason why Vista has no advantage for gamers is because no one (so far) has taken the risk of putting out a game designed from the ground up to use the DX10 APIs. I'm not suprised at all that things designed primarily to run in DX9 (including crysis btw) with a few minor graphical goodies thrown in for the DX10 crowd continue to look and run better in DX9 for the most part. The day someone writes optomized dedicated DX10 code is the day that Vista will be a desirable gaming OS and until then it's just for future proofers and those who need every last bit of graphical detail (DX10 renders DO look better than DX9 renders on high end systems in Crysis). According to Valve's Steam Survey, which include over a million different PC configs, only about 13% of PC users actually have Vista installed, and only about 8% are actually using DX10. I know it's not completely representative, but nor are any other polls tbh (which extrapolate figures from very small samples by comparison).

Why would a developer target a game at such a small audience? It doesn't make economic sense, and I think that is one of the reasons why we haven't seen hide or hair of Alan's Wake since it was announced as a Vista-only title. The potential target audience just isn't big enough, and they're probably frightened of releasing it to see dismal sales (which will cast Microsoft in a bad light).

Besides, with a lot of developers using the Xbox360 as a lead platform for titles these days, they're going to continue using the DX9 API as their API of choice, and just add DX10 effects on top as necessary. That massively broadens the potential audience for any PC title.

In a way, Microsoft have shot themselves in the foot by making the Xbox360 DX9 only. If they had made it DX10 capable, then maybe more developers would switch to Dx10 as a viable API, and drive more gamers to adopt Vista as a result.

Personally I'm glad of the status quo because I won't be upgrading to Vista or DX10 at all, so I can still enjoy games that will be released over the next couple of years that support DX9.

I think that probably is an economic issue. Don't you think that probably there's an agreement between game developers and microsoft to make games for Vista, for gamers to buy Vista...

There's always a way to hack a sistem, there's always a weak point. Piracy, I think, will never stop. Someone said that it would be cool if the companies reduce the prices of games. Totally agree. That would not kill piracy, but is something.

Halo 2 (already on sale) and Alan Wake as far as I know these games are only for Windows Vista ...do you know any more games that are coming JUST for Windows Vista?...

I know that Assasin's Creed (by the way, I want to play it know!) are coming for both...
