I love laptop gaming.

The one argument I agree on, is it will cost you more than a desktop. But if you do it right, an outdated gaming laptop will hold more value than an outdated desktop or parts. Case in point I only lost $300 on a Best Buy g72gx that I upgraded the CPU on after 3 years use. I do not wish to kid myself that I would get anything close to my money back on the M17x, but it is one hell of a gaming machine, and I can only laugh at some of the comments made in this thread.

If you wish to spend under 1k, go with Lenovo. You can get a GTX 660 for under 1k.

for 7970, go Alienware, but do not go M18x CF. If you want 2 GPU, go 680m with AW or Sager.

For 680m, go with who gives you the best deal. Is all about preference.

Call in and talk to the boutiques, don't go by prices listed on the site.

I sold off most of my spare parts on eBay, but kept enough to be ready for Haswell. Just need a MB, CPU and ram and will be good to go.

Cooler Master Storm Scout / MSI GTX 570 / Seasonic 850w PS / D Link extreme N wireless / Asus DVD / depending on MB will use either the pci SB Gamer or the pcie Asus Xonar / Win 7 HP OS

DC Universe Online : great game to play for free. The solo dungeons and challenges were rather well done.

Age of Conan : Levels 1-20 are a must play. Then the game joins the average MMO. I still had a great time, and they have opened up more for the free players since I played.

Lord of the Rings Online : Physics feel weird when you run and jump around, but I had some fun time with it.

Dungeons & Dragons Online : Liked the puzzles, gave it a more traditional RPG feel over most MMOs.

Family Guy Online : a browser based MMO to waste some time on for the laughs alone.

Beware of the free Pay to Win MMOs. There are many out there where a $15 sub fee would be mere pennies to what these people pay to be competitive.

that's such a cramped setupJigglyWiggly_

Downsizing, as I went from a 6BR to a 3BR. Still plenty of room. No setup is complete without a gumball machine with Reeces Pieces in it.

my setup

I liked Skyrim, but not as much as Oblivion. The whole dragon thing was cool at first, but got old rather quick. I thought about getting the DLC when it was on sale on STEAM, but decided against it. I may have put in 100 hours into Skyrim, but I did not search every nook and cranny several times over like I did in Oblivion which i put in several hundred hours.. It could be the been there done that scenario, but it could just be it wasn't as interesting.

Very nice specs for a gaming laptop.

I'm currently trying to sell my MacBook Pro. I've seen some pretty decent laptops with specs that outperform the MacBook at half the cost. I'm looking for something that costs no more than $800 that could play most games at alright settings. I really do not need a machine likes yours, flipsthebird, but something speedy and reliable.

For a new ivy core and keplar gpu, Lenovo would be my personal recommendation for best gaming bang for you buck in that price range. The Y570 with the GTX555 are on sale for $650, and the Y580 with the GTX660 at $850.

I'm a go for the older more powerful DX10 card over buying a new under powered DX11 card myself.
