I have been generally desensitized to violence, though, without a doubt there is a line for me. I've always hated violence towards women, it's something that has always bothered me. Movies especially but in videogames too. Somehow it adds realism for me. Cutting people in half and bashing heads in, in Shadows of Rome is amusing and I used to have a blast playing with my friends but when you attack a female gladiator they scream and that rubbed me the wrong way.

For probably 10 years I've come to this site almost exlcusively when I'm looking for reviews, and they usually seem to do a competent and thorough review.

I like how it adds to realism, I don't like the recent trend where your normal, at the hip, reticle changes color if there is an enemy in it. That detracts realism because you can just aim into smoke or through trees and when your reticle lights up shoot.

I'm not big into hype. I don't usually get excited about games till I see them in action. But...I'm at work right now, and after reading that new article on Far Cry 2, I won't be able to (or shouldn't) stand up for at least 15 minutes... and I drooled all over my desk.

Dark Forces II Jedi Knight has some fond memories for me, that was an incredible game, a little behind the times now. The Jedi Outcast game was fun and so was Jedi Academy (gameplay is incredibly entertaining in these games, though my memories aren't as fond of the newer games). Both KOTORs are great too. Other than those I haven't played any other Star Wars games. When I was looking up the games to make sure I got the names right I saw Star Wars: Best of PC. That might be worth checking out to play some of the best Star Wars games in recent years.

Lots of good suggestions (I'd like to see a new Carmegeddon, Xwing/TIE Fighter, AVP). Though my pick for a game is Trespasser. It was pretty much a sad mess (a bit too ambitious with it's ideas, for example the characters arm could be controlled, pitch roll and yaw, plus the hand could be controlled pitch roll and yaw) but somehow I enjoyed it. I think a remake of that (done well) would be awesome.

I used to beat evey game I got (some RTS' would require a few cheats, so "go through" every game). Recently, I have a lot I haven't gotten through. I start them and either I get stuck or just have no desire to finish. The most recent handful I've finished are (theres a lot inbetween these I haven't finished, plus MMORPG's can't be "beat"):

Half-life 2

FEAR

Warcraft III and Frozen throne (no cheats!)

Chronicles of Riddick

I'm intrigued by games (or movies) that are based on real life events such as wars. My main question is what is held sacred? As in, when is it okay to make a game about an event where horrible things happened? Is it all in the presentation? Movies can be argued as being enlightening or honoring towards something that happened, like the movies based on 911 or war movies that cast a very serious and realistic light on a war. Games, however, would be a lot harder to reason that it honors the memory of the fallen.

For games that already exist. Does playing through a simulation of real life events ever move you to think about the weight of what really happened? In the comfort of your own home, but sitting in a PT boat, storming the beaches of Normandy, do you think about what it must have felt like for your Grandfather or his brothers?

I'm curious what the rest of the gaming community thinks about this topic.
