@SerOlmy That's just silly. Yes the learning curve is steep. Yes, the game is hard. However, I went into it with zero prior MOBA experience and I absolutely fell in love. Dota 2 is by leaps and bounds my most favorite game of all time and I've been playing games since the late 80s.
If you're a casual gamer, yes, its probably not for you. However, if you enjoy playing games and you like a challenge, there is simply nothing as fantastic as Dota 2.
Valve games are simply top notch from Half Life to Portal to Dota.
A great article... I'm in a similar position, I just discovered the wonderful world of Dota thanks to gamespot's Dota Diaries a couple of months ago. The international was a blast to watch, I hope this game does very very well when it is released.
@CommodoreRaslin Depends on the person. I absolutely will try to pick a hero that I think will help the team win. If I see 3 people picked carries already, I will not be picking a carry, I'll pick a support hero. First of all, I prefer to get a win as a team rather than play exactly the hero I had in mind and second, if everyone picks what they want to play, they're far more likely to lose and thus NOT get much enjoyment out of the game.
I just got into the game thanks to this series so thanks guys! On a side note, Zorine, you bought Boots of Speed at the base and sent a courier to bring them to you at bot lane... you could've just bought them at the Side Shop that's right next to you and you'd get them faster and not take up the courier =) You probably know that but thought I'd mention it.
I want to join Digeman in saying "Thanks guys for doing these!". I used to be a PC gamer a decade ago, switched to consoles and just got back into PC gaming several months ago. I've never played or seen a MOBA game... got my invite for Dota about a month ago, logged in, tried to play a bot game and had NO IDEA what in the world I was supposed to do so I never bothered logging in again.
These diaries got me to understand the basics and after watching the first two episodes, I did a lot of digging, watching youtube, reading guides and been playing bots for the last few days. Wowie, what an amazing game and I'm just scratching the surface. So thanks Ed and Zorine for doing these because it introduced me to my new favorite game.
I would say that this was the best game of all time. Of course, if someone was to go and play it now, the impact will not be nearly the same. Many newer games borrowed numerous concepts from Half-Life that we expect in shooters now. However, at the time, this game was trully ground-breaking. Still the best mutiplayer time I've had to this day...
