@MJ12-Conspiracy Back then, it was understandable that they released 20 diff versions. The technology wasn't there at the time to simply update a game. But now a simple update to a game you already own should be simple. Street Fighter 4 and Super street fighter 4 was really no different and should have been an "expansion" if not free, at least a lot less then what it was sold for

@BlazeODU How can EA do that if they don't own or have a share in the developers company??

That's like Gamestop or Amazon telling developers to release a game with locked content that can only be unlocked by purchasing a key. The worse they could do is not sell the game on their site/stores.

Same situation here if they were to ever do that. Unless they have some kind of share to make that kind of demand, they could not force that demand on small developers.

If anything, they will probably pick up the developers who are most successful to make games for EA

@Elann2008 well you have to think of the audience they make the games for?? games that usually take millions to make, are targeting a smaller group, a group that are filled with elites and pessimistic folks who don't want to fork over the money and/or time to that game. Which is part of the reason why we see a bunch of sequels. Ravio made a game on a device most people in the world have, and you can play it free, or buy it for 1 dollar. The risk is much smaller, plus, the audience is much larger.

@tenz01 well not all those were sales. they have a free version and a paid version. They just said it was downloaded 1 bil times. However, due to advertising on the free version, they probably still seen a good amount of revenue.

it is a simple game that features recognizable characters in a very easy to learn game that everyone can enjoy. How can you not see how popular this is.

You can't possibly think only people like yourself live in this world. From kids, to adults, to seniors play angry birds. How can they lose? Of course there are better games, but are those games suitable for everyone??

It is the same reason why apps like instagram are so popular. There are quite a few camera apps that are better than instagram as far as photo editing, but the simplicity of instagram and the social aspect is where it shines, and the reason why they have 30 million people using it

@the_requiem certain things are better left unsaid. His statement was one of those things

I don't see why he took it back. What he said is true. in theory, it would be awesome business wise; it's the consumer however, who wouldn't benefit from it. I get that they want to generate profit, but they need to do what is good for business and for the consumer.

@explicitmike Yeah, but most who do pirate don't play online, or they have to disable their mods if they go online. What i'm saying, is that SOny MS Nintendo (whoever makes a gaming console) has the ability to monitor anything and everything you do on the console much better than on a PC if they chose that route. And that was the point I was making about buying them used. You still need a valid and available key to use it. I doubt they will completely disable used games, they will probably give you an option to buy some kind of pass. I'd rather the developer of the game make that decision than the hardware companies.

@explicitmike He is not talking about movies, he is talking about software you use on your computer (Microsoft Office which requires a key for example). That is a valid point, as certain games you couldn't play without a key on the PC. So if I ever wanted to fire up Unreal tournament 2004, I would need a key in order to play with all the features. It is usually common ground for PC gamers, not so much with console gamers. They are basically trying to bring that environment to the console atmosphere. Yeah you can pirate, but consoles are a bit more controlled than a PC, because it is all proprietary.

They may not be too far off with Free-To-Play being future. SOme games are using that method (Phantasy Star Online 2 for example)
