@RSM-HQ Actually the game I was looking for was Returnal with the option of a male character. Duke Nukem? Where did that come from. :) But I do agree with you 100 percent. It is their right to create the character that they wish, and also their right to railroad players into playing their exclusively female protagonist. By the same token it is my right not to purchase their game if I dislike the forced gender selection. Enjoy.
I was excited about it until I realized that there is no option to play a male character. I wonder why they would omit a character selection option. I am quite disappointed that they would choose to force a player to play a woman. Sorry but this is a game breaker for me.
@Daelda: Thank you for your response. It was well thought out. Yes I suppose my position is somewhat quick to the draw, since the exact type of MT's have not been formally announced. However, like many, my level of trust for those in the corporate crystal tower to refrain from an exploitive arrangement is very low. Even the way the announcement was worded.... something like wanting everyone to be happy to spend more money.... quite honestly stank. And it is interesting that you are unable to say for certain that the transactions will definitely be limited to the cosmetic. By your own words it could go either way. But you are correct. I won't make any final judgement until the product is actually released, and this will be the factor which will tip the scales on if I purchase this game that I have been looking forward to for so long. @ichirei: Altho a single player version might be worthwhile to some, most gamers will tell you that multiplayer is where the real fun is at. Perhaps some people are willing to pay for a game which manipulates them to pay extra to get the most out of their game, but I am not one of them. I detest marketing exploitive gimmicks. I hope it is not too terribly traumatic for you that my perspective does not mesh with your little world.
@Jaxith: It does not concern me that a game might offer only a male only protagonist. I am not a social justice warrior and could care less about such things. I think that the best scenario is one that offers a choice rather than railroading the player one way or the other. In any event the games that I prefer to spend my money on are the ones that have a male protagonist because this is what I enjoy since I am a man.
@gotrekfabian: Indeed there are great games out there with female only characters. More power to them. However this does not change this does not change my game preference. I best enjoy playing male characters, so that is what I am willing to pay for.
I do not purchase games that only allow for a female protagonist choice. I never have and I never will. I think its great (and appropriate) that players be given a choice how to play any game.
Oh yea and here comes the predictable name calling. Its all good so go ahead and show us what you are. In any event my choices are my own to make. Enjoy.
Call it nonsense if you like. To me and perhaps others who share the same perception it is not nonsense. It is rather a removal of freedom of choice based on sex and race. My choice is about not being a part of the strong politically correct movement of feminism and racism and about not being forced to act in a prescribed manner. I prefer to be free to make my own choice.
I will not pay for these type of games. It is my way of saying that I will not support them.
