I had the exact same problem just about a month ago when I first played HL2. I read up on the problem and apparently it has something to do with the field of view (FOV) in HL2.

Most FPS use a 90 degree FOV, for some reason HL2 uses 75. You can change it 90 but entering into the console in the main menu FOV 90, I can't remember if its caps or not.

It helped me a lot.

Although I'm not sure if you would classify them as sci-fi FPS: FEAR, STALKER, Prey.

Doom3 did suck pretty bad. Nice graphics and a lot of "boo!" type scary moments but that's about it.

Well this is a very subjective choice, I've played both and I'd say I enjoy playing 2142 more.

2142 has the extra gameplay modes (Titan, Assualt Lines), futuristic vehicles (like the walker, speeder) and you can customize your soldier to greater extent than in 2 which I like a lot. Also ranking up is much easier IMO which is nice b/c it feels as though you are making progress as opposed to BF2 where you get to Gunnery Seargent and it feels impossible to get past it.

Anyway thats my 2 cents, I think you'll have fun with either but I'll give the nod to 2142.

Hey, I just started playing Half Life 2 and I know everyone's probably played through it already and I was just wondering what you liked or hated about it.

Personally I love and hate the way they always you scrounging around and you never feel comfortable or in control. Your always holding on by the skin of your teeth, it pisses me off because I have to be on my toes but I like it too because it's different from other shooters.

I love the way the story is told, it's so corny sometimes but other times it's nice to have it played out in game and not have any cut scenes.

I really hate how much any plot development is really spread out, you have to play about an hour or two before you get any new tidbit of information on what's going on. I just wanna know everything at once!

I haven't played through the whole game yet so please NO SPOILERS!

Motion sickness is nothing you should see a doctor for, unless you also have bad hearing or regular pain in the ears. Some people have more sensitive balance organs (which are located in the ears) and thus are more subject to movement than others, nothing strange about that. However if you do feel you have problems with your ears (or regular headaches) it could also be an ear infection or other balance-organ related problems. Check it up!

Anyway, I too got motion sickness from HL2 (and many other games) and something that truly worked was to change the FOV as was mentioned earlier. To do that in HL2 you bring up the console and type fov 90. That will put the Field of View to 90 instead of default 75. To change the default I think it is with the default_fov command but I don't know for sure (don't have HL2 installed so I can't check it out.

Oh and one more thing, taking pills for motion sickness is not something I recommend, what they do is generally numb your related senses down and makes you feel sleepy which isn't something you want when playing an FPS right? :)

Nelien

Thanks, I didn't know anything about this before. I'll definitely try it.

lol @ motion sickness. Have you guys ever been on a roller coaster?

Sorry to mock :) Maybe you wanna see a doctor man. You dont want to end up having a fit or what not...seriously speaking i mean. :)

anandram

I've been on roller coasters b4 and never had a problem with them.

I really don't think this is something I need a doctor for but if it gets worse I won't rule it out.

I just started playing Half Life 2 after so many years because I finally have a decent computer to run it on.

Anyway I started playing shortly after dinner and after about an hour of playing it I noticed an increasing sense of motion sickness. I felt dizzy and just a little nauseous. At first I wasn't sure if it was the game so I exited it and did some other stuff.

I tried playing again later on in the evening and I got the same feelings. Now I've played a bunch of FPS's (BF2, FEAR, BF 2142 etc.) and I've never had this happen before.

So I was wondering if anyone else had this happen to them? And better yet what they did about it? (other than not playing than it, cuz I'm totally finishing this game even if I puke up a lung)

I would not be surprised in the least if they still had quite active servers.

If you're looking for FPS, there's Battlefield 2 or 2142, FEAR, STALKER, Half Life 2 or Prey. Some RTS there's C&C3, Supreme Commander, Company of Heroes, War Hammer 40K, LOTR: Rise of Witch King and Medieval 2: Total War (although the last one is really more turn based but real time battles). If it's racing I'm only familiar with the NFS series, I would reccommend Most Wanted though
