@Pyrosa: There's a reason all the earnings calls articles on here the past week have these companies making billions off of add on sales. The majority of people don't have that restraint.
That seems like a deal until you realize the 3 games included are the biggest microtransaction filled and DLC to advance shells on the market. This bundle may end up costing some people $1,000+.
When the worst games of the year sell the most and record amounts of money are spent on digital add ons, you know the industry is doomed. I'm just going to stick to single player games and retro stuff.
Destiny 1 pulled the same stuff that D2 is doing but there wasn't near the outcry. It's good to see the loot crate situation is making people look at other deceptive practices in gaming and calling out these developers. There might be hope for the industry after all.
@LonelyHippie27: What they're doing is putting out a $60 game full of content that has had free upgrades and additions for 4 years. You can get anything you want in the game without buying currency if you put in the time.
There's no expansion paywall like Destiny, no map paywall like COD, no loot crates, no season pass, no car packs, no gun packs and no costume packs. You spend more if you want to, not forced to like in so many other games now.
Take Two and Rockstar are some of the very few who understand how microtransactions and DLC should be done. Make the original content really good and lengthy, then add dlc and microtransactions after. Make people feel like they've gotten so much already for their $60, that they don't mind tossing down another $10-$20. Could be why after 4 years, GTA V is still up there on sales charts and most played lists.
@LasDK: That seems to be everyone in gaming now. They all want $60 for their game, plus $50 for a season pass, then $9.99-$99.99 for their in game currency. All the while the quality and testing of these games is taking a nose dive. To expand on your example, Forza 7 is a mess currently and not even close to what I expected form T10.
I have a 4k TV and haven't pulled the trigger on either the Pro or X yet. As nice as the graphical upgrade would be, I just can't justify the expense with how buggy and microtransaction filled the games I play have been lately. I'm primarily an MLB The Show and Forza player with a few third party games thrown in. Nothing in gaming anywhere has me ready to drop $400/$500. Maybe I'm just getting old and crotchety.
