What would you recommend to a massive fan of the original FFT and War of the lions?
Still have Tactics Ogre and the original Ogre Battle on my list, although I found it a bit difficult to get into because there were no help files to help me figure out what I was leveling my units into. I guess I'm a spoiled modern day gamer in some ways!
Disgaea didn't really suck me in as much. Grotesque Tactics was amusing to a point, but the gameplay itself was too simple - not enough cool skills to customise the squad with. Same with Fire Emblem.
Fire Emblem is most like Shining Force and on the plus side it's a really long-running series. If you're looking for a simpler gaming experience that FFT, try Grotesque Tactics 1 and 2 from Steam or Desura. Maybe even Final Fantasy tactics advance or FFT:A2 if you have an NDS as they took out a lot of the complexity in those versions. Got an Android phone? Try Hero Mages for free. Spectral Souls is out on Android, PSP, and PS2, although I haven't made much headway into it yet. Battle for Wesnoth is free on PC, and £2.44 on Android. Could also try Fantasy Wars or Elven Legacy, but I've heard they have their faults. The Sw&Ear (Swords and Earrings) series is also pretty cheap on Android if you don't mind basic graphics.
