[QUOTE="gamer082009"][QUOTE="bpw8"]last I checked the xbox 360 couldn't play a handful of my xbox games thats main reason I went with a PS3 over it. I think two that I can think of off the top of my head was Otogi, I loved those games.bpw8
But they got "Games On Demand" which carries last gen and this gen games. Love the service..and not getting a particular console because of no backwards compatibility is kinda silly! People just don't know how to move on..

why would i want to "move on" when old games are still just as fun to play as new games. I don't want 4 or 5 consoles clogging up my living room

Exactly

Same here. It's crazy how Sony isn't trying to make the Ps3 backwards compatible. Forcing people to keep thier ps2's in order to play the games.

Having to play games on the system they were made for?! INSANITY!

IT IS INSANE. We're not using floppy drives or game cartridges now are we? We're using disks. I can play Windows 95 games on Vista thats to Microsoft being smart enough to have OS compatibility features. It's not perfect, but at least they have it in. Third party software emulators fills in the gaps. This is why I wish more games came out for PC rather than just consoles...

I too am waiting for either a backward compatible PS3 or for SOny to release PS2 games on a download service. I don't think it's silly at all. If someone is strictly a sports gamer, I can see that. Sports games, for the most part, only get better with new systems. How many people would go back and play Madden 07 on Playstation 2 if they have Madden 10 on PS3? But some games do not have equivalent sequel. Games such as: Star Wars Battlefront do not have a sequel on PS3. Many would say just buy Call of Duty or Bad Company. It's not the same. For one, the setting is different. ALso you cannot set up a battle with bots on any of the PS3 FPS games and play split screen with a friend. Another example would be RPG fans. I know Final Fantasy always has a sequel, but still not the same experience. Many are unhappy with 13 due to not being able to visit towns, etc.

At least someone gets it...

Does anyone know if Sony plans on releasing PS3 that obtains the backward compatability to play PS2 games?

I'm in the market for PS3, but I don't want to keep my PS2 around anymore....

Any word on how PS4 will handle backward compatability? Are they going to try to be smart about it like Xbox....?

Thank you for all the replies that were worth my time. (its so friggin hard for people to just stay on topic without god damn smart assed comments that don't help) Next time I'll remember to post this thread in the PC discussoin then? Or expect honest opinions on Xbox in the PS3 forum?

Give me a fu**ing break.

Get used to it man. This is how all of GS's forums are.

You know you're right. I shouldn't have expected anything less from a forum. The internet is where anyone can hide behind a monitor and act like a tough guy with smart assed remarks.

But like I said, thanks for all the helpful replies. Considering I like Tekken more than DOA (by far) I'll be getting a PS3 and just borrow my friend's Xbox when need be.

For players who own (or have owned) both Xbox360 and Playstatoin 3

Which console is worth its price?

Which has the best performance?

Which has the best graphics card?

I am anticipating some new fighting games titles, but not sure which console would bring me the best experience... I suppose I should stick with PS3 since Tekkenis exclusive to it, right? Thankfully Soul Calibur and Virtua Fighter are on XBOX360? my main game is Mortal Kombat no doubt.

Thanks for your input.
