I'm not really arguing the validity or quality of a remake; I've played good remakes too. But, all in all, what the hell is the point of spending a bunch of money, time, and effort making a game that's already been made? Or, on our end of things, what's the point of spending a bunch of money, time, and effort playing a game we've already played?

No GBA, no real hardware upgrade, no deal. Sorry. I take FFVI with me just about everywhere. And since I'm sure I'll get someone telling me to 'just get a homebrew card, it's waaaay easier n00b', I'll have you know that SNES emu on DS sucks for the most part, and most games aren't really displayed very well.

Internet? Practically every gadget, gizmo, and device in the world has internet capability now, and likely better browsing than the DSi can offer.

No significant hardware upgrade? You mean this (relatively) large handheld system can't fit (much) internal flash memory, or uprade the RAM to something more than 16 meg worth? Still not sold. Perhaps Nintendo should take a lesson from Apple on hardware design.

There are other caveats that will keep me from upgrading just yet (shorter battery life overall, the oft-discussed notion that some DS games cause the DSi to freeze up, etc etc), and since DS games are supposed to be cross-compatible in the meantime, who knows when 'yet' will be. I'm sure eventually they'll code-lock the newer DS games from working on the DS lite.

Seems like half, if not more, of the games being released or talked about these days are remakes of older games. Or, if they're not, it's some quickly mashed-up product (note the use of the word 'product', and not 'game') meant to make a quick buck off of the legions of so-called casual gamers.

Don't get me wrong, I know there are also plenty of great games being released nowadays too...they're just mostly next-gen shooters, or new games in an old series. I think probably the last truly interesting game I've played in recent memory was Mirror's Edge, or even World Of Goo.

I do think there are some decent or even good games being made nowadays, but it seems to me that the over-inflation the business of gaming has undergone has made a lot of developers lose sight of what made their games compelling before. And instead of focusing their attention on creating amazing, compelling, jaw-dropping new games or new series of games, it's all about re-making the old ones (that were!) with shiny new graphics and updated play mechanics.

It must be something when I'm more interested in breaking out my Super Nintendo than playing Xbox 360 or PS3. At least the DS remakes can be played anywhere (and Chrono Trigger is a damn good remake...).

Thoughts and comments are more than welcome! I'd love to be proven wrong, perhaps I might just find some great new games to play out of it!
